Certain applications crash
The error listed above comes from the .NET framework. Might be that your installation is corrupted somehome. You can try to repair it with this tool: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135 If that doesn't help, try a complete reinstallation of the Framework: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/microsoft_net_framework_cleanup_tool.html

Question for Airbus gurus - entering a flight plan
Hmmm, the AXE can use both Navigraph and Navdata Pro navigation databases. Did you switch to Navigraph in the AirbusX configurator? In any case, Aerosoft has a dedicated support forum where you can ask the developers directly.

Question for Airbus gurus - entering a flight plan
Froogle has a nice tutorial video that also shows how to enter flight plans in the AXE:
- Anybody using OpenVFR? How's their stuff?

FSX Crashing due to Squawkbox.
Are you running FSX and Squawkbox as admin? If not you should do so.

Bufferpools = 0 artifacts
No, that's for Bojote's Shader 3.0 mod. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/283701-bojotes-shader-30-mod-for-fsx/

Bufferpools maybe?

OOM when using less then 4GB VAS
The 1M size is just from my personal experience. Your mileage may vary. Theoretically, if FSX needs to load some resource, say a 5MB texture, there must be at least one contiguous block of address space left that can accomodate these 5MB. If not FSX will OOM. Virtual Size is what you should be looking at. Private Bytes doesn't include address space used for DLLs for example. The full explanantion can be found here: http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/TechEd/NorthAmerica/2011/WCL405

OOM when using less then 4GB VAS
Correct. Are you still running 32bit Windows? Under 32bit Windows, each application has 2GB VAS (it's acutally 4GB, but only 2GB effectively usable). Under 64bit Windows, each 32bit application has the full 4GB VAS (64bit apps have a lot more). When the free VAS goes close to zero, you should get an OOM.

OOM when using less then 4GB VAS
You dont need to monitor other processes. Highlight the "Free" row in VMMap and sort by block size descending in the bottom part of the screen like so: http://imageshack.us/a/img580/941/fsxmemvmo1gdefdrv125m.png First key indicator is the total amount of free VAS, that is the number showing in the "Free" row. Your second indicator is the largest contigous block size of free VAS which shows in the bottom part of the screen. That should show at least 1 meg. Note that VMap doesnt update auotmatically like ProcessExplorer does. So you need tohit F5 from time to time. IIRC you can set it to update automatically, but that degrades performance and ultimately let to VMMap crashing on my system after a while.

PMDG 777 Release Bitter Sweet.
Actually, I did not regard Dillon's original post to be bashing PMDG but rather an expression of his concern that the old lady FSX may not do it much longer and that we need to start looking out for a new platform in the near future. Maybe I've read it wrong...Dillion fancies himself as our local heresy hunter, opposition prognosticator and cold hard dry ridiculer and general all around know it all show off. I for ne, and I am sure many others as well are not going to take a single more slant from him without serious remedy Enjoy your movie Stephen! I'm off to a concert as well B) Cheers, Tom

OOM when using less then 4GB VAS
As far as I understand, that is only relevant to 32bit operating systems. Under Win7 64bit, only the parts of the video memory that are actually used by FSX for GPU resources such as textures are mapped into the address space and that only applies to DX9.

Let's go AI Native!
AI packages such a WOAI (Word of AI) use aircraft models that are still in FS9 or even FS8 format. These slow down the sim and can cause other problems. So what the OP was asking for is to abandon those legacy AI aircraft models for native FSX models.

PMDG 777 Release Bitter Sweet.
I think it's considerably less when you select only scenery region.More around 10GB. The installer will tell you...

OOM when using less then 4GB VAS
OOMs can also occur when the VAS gets largely fragmented (link). So if FSX needs to allocate 1MB of memory and there is no contiguous block of free address space with at least 1MB size, on OOM would also occur. VMMap can display the structure of the free address space. However, since the OP stated that he is getting OOMs at around 2.7G VAS usage, I doubt that the memory is that much fragmented at this point.

PMDG 777 Release Bitter Sweet.
Great post Dillon! I also have very mixed feelings about the future of FSX. It may have a few more years to live and we can certainly enjoy it, but I can't see myself still running this in the next decade. I wonder almost every day what the next generation sim platform will be. P3D in its current state is not an option for me. And X-Plane... I was very enthusiastic about it last year, but it seems that third-party addon development has somewhat stalled. We'll see if X-Plane can regain some momentum when PMDG or some other noteworthy FSX developer release one of their addons for XP. The question that bugs me most is if there is still something behind door number three? Maybe DCS or Outerra? Or is Aerosoft's once proposed sim platform not as dead as it seems right now? Robert Randazzo once menitoned at the Avsim FANCON some "other platform" that was apparently not FSX or XP. Still wondering what he meant... Right now I'm using FSX on a regular basis but I hope that a switch to another platform will happen in the next two years. For me it's getting quite hard to justify more addon purchases for FSX when thinking about the possibility that the whole stuff may soon be obsolete.
-
Impact of PMDG's B777 on X-Plane-community?
And the DC-6. Plus RSR was talking about a DC-3 or DC-4 getting developed after that. I don't think PMDG will stop developing for FSX anytime soon.

You're welcome! Hope you get the actual cause of the memory leak thing sorted out somehow.

Have you replaced the default situation with a custom one in the past? Also, what happens when you disable preloading?

FSX market went to...
Certainly. The point I was trying to make with the Cambodian livery is that some products will inherently appeal only to a very small segment of the market. So dropping the price lower and lower will at some point stop to attract more buyers. Even if the developer gave he livery away for free many people won't be interested in it. Hence the problem with those niche products: they are going to be more expensive unless the developer doesnt care about the money.

Future of FSX
Wow!! A message from the great PTaylor himself. Thank you Phil for the great platform you have given to us. It must be quite satisfying for you to see how FSX is still alive these days, especially considering the bashing it got when it was released. Thank you for all the work you put into this platform. It brought countless hours of fun to me and many, many other fellow simmers. Cheers, Tom

FSX market went to...
I too have seen addons for sale that made me chuckle after reading the product description and then the price tag. But then thinking about it: There may well be addons that only have handful of potential customers, irresespective of the price. If a developer wants to see any half decent return on the time he invested into making the addon, the price has to be higher compared to other addons that sell in high volumes. Consider a scenario where a developer makes a livery for a small regional carrier in , say Cambodia. The livery may be McPhat quality, but who's gonna buy it? Not many! So it has to sell for a higher price compared what you pay at McPhat. If the potential customers don't shy away from the high price tag then all is well. If they do and nobody buys that livery then the developer may either try to sell it a lower price next time and not care about the low return for his work, or the morale would be not to make any future addons for such a limited market. The good thing about download distribution is that the sellers don't have to keep stock. So they can list addons that might sell in small volumes only as opposed to retail stores which only list products of which they think will sell. The only risk of the whole download distribution model is that some stores will basically put anything a developers wants to be sold in their store, no matter how tacky the product is and no matter how little value for money customers will get with it. Some stores have certain standards and won't offer those addons, others will just list them. Experienced simmers will be able to separate the good from the bad by reading the product description carefully. But it can be quite time consuming to browse through the flood of addons that are newly offered each day. That's why I no longer browse through these sim stores anymore. If something is worth buying, it'll sooner or later be mentioned here in the forums.

Microsoft says CEO Ballmer to retire in 12 months
LM is a defense contractor and there's a lot of money to be made in that area, agreed. But I can't imagine that MS will want to compete with LM. As for a new consumer-oriented flight sim made by MS: I can't think of a way that MS will make money of it.

Microsoft says CEO Ballmer to retire in 12 months
I'm not so sure about that. CEOs have to do what the shareholders expect them to do: make sure the company generates profits. I think that the times of having pet projects like MSFS at Microsoft are definitiely over. And after the Flight disaster I don't think anyone at MS will ever touch that topic again.
