[FSX] FSX acceleration Memory leak (free flight)

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a memory leak problem with FSX, which is causing a "out of memory" (OOM) in free flight selection and so far only in free flight selection. It never happened in a normal fligh. So I cannot leave FSX free flight selection open in background, FSX will crash. Few time before FSX crash, textures disapear from the current aircraft.

The memory leak can be seen in process explorer in private bytes and virtual size, it about two minutes the problem occurs.

Before :

After :

The following things has been tested without sucess :

1) fsx.cfg deleted then FSX launch (fsx.cfg renewed) without .dll or .gau validation, the problem always occurs with test aircraft Dino Cattaneo T45

2) all addon scenery unselection afte point 1, same result

3) I have used DebugDiagx64 to trace the problem up to api.dll with increase of 400 MB in the heap

4) I have replace my AMD video driver with 12.4, 12.10, 13.4  and 13.8 beta2, same result

5) I have tried the patched new api.dll found in

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/389704-fsx … -patcher/ the error does not happen but the memory leak remains with the textures which dispear and no flight can be launch for FSX fre flight.

Could you please help,

Config : Asus G73J avec Radeon mobility HD5870, Windows 7 64bits, FSX with acceleration

Thank for your help,

Do you have the highmemfix=1 fix in the graphics section of your fsx.cfg?

I do not see anything out of the norm with your Process Monitor report.  In fact CPU usage is far below the norm.  I usually run between 80 and 95% but, as I recall that might have been after FSX fully loaded.  If you are getting an OOM, it is most likely caused by a high LOD_Radius, Texture_Max_Load, a bad BufferPool "tweak" or a combination of them all.  I can replicate an OOM 100% of the time if I turn my LOD_Radius up to 9.5,  and my Texture_Max_Load at 4096 which flying in real weather, in a commercial aircraft addon, and in commercial sceneries.  FSX does not run well on notebooks with high settings.

Best regards,

Jim

Hello FireHawk44,

Thank you for your reply, the highmemfix=1 is included in fsx.cfg. In the process monitor reports, you can see the increase in virtual size and private bytes. When virtual size rise above around 1024 MB, the problem occurs. I think that most of your tweaks procude an OOM in real flying, whereas my problem only happen before that in free flight selection. Sorry I'm running out of time now.

Thank you again,

Have you replaced the default situation with a custom one in the past?

Also, what happens when you disable preloading?

Tom

Hello again,

I have disable preloading, FSX turn more than an hour. I suppose it is related to the addon scenery.

I will post more later.

Thank you tom79 very much for the idea.

Hello,

Many thanks tom79, the trick is working very well. I can now leave FSX running all the time. When I will have more time, I may investigate more on this scenery problem. It seems that the scenery is loaded even, if it is disabled in FSX. I have read some body writting this as well on web.

Any way thank you so much,

Rallye

You're welcome! Hope you get the actual cause of the memory leak thing sorted out somehow.

Regards,

Tom
