August 23, 201312 yr I read this on CNN and immediately rushed here to see if someone posted about it. Anyways... WOOHOOO!!!! FINALLY!!!! Hopefully Steve Ballmer Jr. doesn't take his place. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
August 23, 201312 yr You can read his letter to the company here. http://www.theverge.com/2013/8/23/4650720/steve-ballmer-microsoft-ceo-retirement-letter
August 23, 201312 yr Damage already done? Christ, what a train wreck. Bill, time to saddle up, ride in, and start cleaning up all of the poo-flinging-monkey's mess. Alex Cadle
August 23, 201312 yr It won't make any difference, Ballmer didn't directly cancel FS, it was a corporate choice. FS isn't coming back...at least not from Microsoft Ian R Tyldesley
August 23, 201312 yr It won't make any difference, Ballmer didn't directly cancel FS, True, but leaders are expected to lead. US Army FM "Seek responsibility and responsibility will be given to you". Alex Cadle
August 23, 201312 yr Would like to have seen the look on his face when Microsoft's board told him he was 'retiring'. FSX: PMDG 744/MD11/JS41/736/737/738/739, CS752/753/763/C130, SimCheck A300, Leonardo MD82, MJC DH8D, Aerosoft CRJ7/CRJ9/A318/A319/A320/A321, RAZBAM Metroliner, ORBX Global, FlyTampa KBUF/OMDB/TNCM/VHHX, ActiveSky Next DCS: A-10C II/F-16C/AH-64D/F-15E/KA-50 III/Mi-24/Persian Gulf/Syria/F-15C XP11: FF 752/753, iniBuilds A306, HotStart TBM900 MSFS: Fenix A320, FS2Crew Fenix A320, FS2Crew Pushback Express, PMDG B77W, ActiveSky FS, Drzewiecki Design UUEE
August 23, 201312 yr This isn't about FS. As a sysadmin, I've been watching the decline of Microsoft for quite some time. Hopefully a new CEO can bring some order back to the Seattle offices. Karl Brooker
August 23, 201312 yr It won't make any difference, Ballmer didn't directly cancel FS, it was a corporate choice. FS isn't coming back...at least not from Microsoft Flight Simulator 'will' return, no doubt about that especially if the new CEO is any kind of an aviation fan. They had the best product for home simulation on the market. When Ballmer took over Bill Gates last development position at Microsoft was when Aces was disbanded. I would say within the next three years (Ballmer unfortunately in still on for another 12 months) we'll see the return of FS, you can take that to the bank. Too many aviation insiders loved the series and that's straight from the folks at the Northwest Airlines Simulators that used to be up here in Minneapolis, Aviation schools, and the big reason Lockheed tried to take on the project when Ballmer canned it. It's coming back no doubt about that now is the case of when... Very exciting news although I wish his butt was out the door today not 12 months from now. Prolonging is stay is of no benefit... A new CEO would benefit just jumping in and winging it versus listening to Ballmer's cluelessness for a year. August 23, 201312 yr Flight Simulator will return, no doubt about that especially if the new CEO is any kind of an aviation fan. I'm not so sure about that. CEOs have to do what the shareholders expect them to do: make sure the company generates profits. I think that the times of having pet projects like MSFS at Microsoft are definitiely over. And after the Flight disaster I don't think anyone at MS will ever touch that topic again. Regards, Tom

I think that the times of having pet projects like MSFS at Microsoft are definitiely over. And after the Flight disaster I don't think anyone at MS will ever touch that topic again. We'll see. I bet money your wrong... FS at this point is not a pet project when you have applications like Google Earth which covers the whole world and Level-D manufactures begging for a standard to their graphic engines. Lockheed wouldn't have touched the product if it was a 'pet' endeavor. It's time we stop short changing our hobby and this outstanding piece of software...
