TOWER CAB IS UNDER DEVELOPMENT
Hello all, Well, the past few years have been really difficult. While developing TOWER CAB, I had a severe adverse reaction to a medication for pain that sent me into suicidal depression. Had I researched the drug beforehand, I would have discovered 1 in 50 people commit suicide. I should NOT have taken it. It took nearly a year to overcome the effects of that medication. Then, my father-in-law had a long battle with cancer and died on July 8, 2015. On that same date however, I received an injection called a "facet" injection that has blocked the pain in damaged spine. I can now stand for more than 10 minutes without excruciating pain! Thank God for that! Then, in August of 2014, I suffered another motorcycle wreck and fractured my left cheekbone. I have now abandoned riding motorcycles any longer, and have purchased the vehicle you see as my profile pic; a 1980 Shay Model A Reproduction. It is a 50th anniversary Model A of the 1929 Model A Ford. I wanted one when I was about 22 when it came out. I waited a long time to finally own one. Now, in saying all of that, continuing development of TOWER CAB has been a very exhausting experience due to all of the external struggles going on! This is why you have not heard from me here at AVSIM for almost 3 years now. I have finally released version 1.5 of TOWER CAB and am happy with the result. I have completed the livery paint schemes for the commercial aircraft in the game, and have updated other graphic elements. I have also corrected some mistakes in the taxi routes that aircraft were following. And, on the advice of other users, I have made some modifications to the flight dispatch program for more flexible flight customization. This release is compatible with Windows 7 and later, including Windows 10. Of course with Windows 10, there are security features that like to interfere with its operation, since pilot voice generation is accomplished using a Winsock control. So, make sure you allow for TCP/IP connections and it will run just fine. It is now on sale and as always, visit www.towercab.com for more information.

Open Message to AVSIM Community
AVSIM has always been more than accomodating to the flight sim community. I wholeheartedly believe the AVSIM presence in the www has made my product what it is today. Without AVSIM, it could have simply been nothing but a memory. I am truly a fan, and will remain so.

TOWER CAB IS UNDER DEVELOPMENT
Thanks WR269. I am working from actual Sarasota-Bradenton engineering drawings to create this. I just added all of the 185 signs to the scenery just last week. This week, I should be getting historical flight plan data as well another engineering drawing the entire airport lighting system to check against my current layout. I am using all sources available to make this highly accurate. Be sure and visit/like the facebook page ( http://www.facebook.com/towercab ). I post there almost daily. I'm trying to involve the sim community and keep them informed of how something like this is created. I didn't start the modeling phase until 4/27/2012. This is the progress for 4 months of effort.

TOWER CAB IS UNDER DEVELOPMENT
Here is another daytime shot from the approach end of runway 32. thank you WR269. Yes, BAO Tower was ahead of its time. Too bad MS bought the product to then only shelve it. I never understood that.

EU rules publishers cannot stop you reselling your downloaded games
No one said they purchased the copyright, and that isn't what EU was talking about. They clearly purchased DLC as a license. And your analogy with a book is far different than a piece of software. The book is a physical item that in fact changes hands. Once you sell the book, it is undeniable that you no longer own it. But, If that person copies the book before selling it, then they have committed copyright infringement. The EU can claim all day long you can resell your DLC all you want. So what? People have been doing it all along for years. No one has stopped anyone from doing just that. This ruling has no impact on whether people will stop or not. Its going to happen irregardless. But whether or not any developer will actual "listen" to this is up to them. And I seriously doubt their ruling will stop developers methods of protecting themselves from illegal sales of their intellectual property, especially when it violates their license agreement. It will have absolutely no impact on how I do business.

EU rules publishers cannot stop you reselling your downloaded games
They have no jurisdiction over U.S.produced software. EU can make that claim, but it is meaningless in the U.S. as far as I know. And EU can try to make the claim that users "own" their software and can resell it. But, users who purchase DLC own a "license", they do not own the software. The true "owner" is the author who holds the copyright, domestic or abroad. So I guess based upon that fact, you can only resell downloaded software you "own" as in "copyright" ownership. If you do not own the copyright, then you do not have the right to resell it, but are bound by the conditions of your license, period. I really don't care what the EU court has to say about it. But as a developer, what I would then require is that the user who resells the software I sold them, grant me exclusive access to their PC to determine if in fact the software in question has been removed before I generate a new license for the new owner of the DLC. Just because a user claims they have removed it and have released their license to another, is just not enough proof. And I just know that users would be more than happy to oblige....NOT!

Anyone else still playing the BETA version?
It was my understanding to download and start playing the "release" version, we had to first remove the "beta" version. But nothing said I "had" to remove it. :-) So, I chose not to so I wouldn't lose all of my content; which was at the time, everything that was available. So, I'll just play it until I've completed everything, and then delete it and start anew with the release version.

Anyone else still playing the BETA version?
Actually, from what I can tell, my progress is still being recorded on my PC, just not online. So I am still progressing through all of the challenges/missions just never connected to the LIVE network. I don't have to repeat anything that I am already completed. There is still a lot left of the pre-release version that I have not yet done.

Anyone else still playing the BETA version?
yes, I know. I can't get any more DLC. But for now, I'm okay with it. There is still a lot left to do/see in Hawaii.

Anyone else still playing the BETA version?
I am just curious if there is anyone else like me who kept the beta version? Since I received all of the DLC before release, I just kept it as it was. Of course, none of my Live account stuff is being stored and I can't play any muliplayer stuff (didn't care to anyway), but I am still enjoying the full package as is. My history for challenges and missions is being stored on my PC, and they all function. So, that's a plus. But, I know I can never upgrade it or anything, or add more DLC, but decided to keep playing for now.

FSUIPC and FLIGHT? Any chance?
Hey, you're right! I forgot about the fact Simconnect.dll was introduced in FSX. (I think it was created to compete with FSUIPC! IMHO). I may have to play around with it myself. Thanks for reminding me! I did some contract work recently where I created an app to playback historical taxiway traffic, so the user can watch from the tower. I was going to use FSUIPC, but the latency was so bad, I tossed the idea of FSUIPC and went right for using the Simconnect.dll directly.

Tom, I would just like to say, I truly appreciate everything that AVSIM does for the aviation community as a whole. I really owe a lot of my own success to the presence AVSIM has in the WWW. And if I ever bring a spirit of discontent to any discussion, it is never my intent. I would never want to in any way disparage what I feel is a great relationship with you guys. So, I try to choose my words carefully, and never wish to inflame anyone. And on occasion, I may be wrong about some things, which can often stem from my own misunderstanding. I honestly believe, AVSIM is here to support a hobby that we all love, and is not here to play referee with any product. Your views are usually unbiased, and informative. Thats why I like this place. You guys are always "In The Know" !! And if I have ever expressed a negative opinion on a forum, its usually because of the same thing you're tired of, the relentless crap that produces nothing but animosity between members. So for my own actions, I do apologize to you and the entire community.

FSUIPC and FLIGHT? Any chance?
I'm sure we're a long way from doing much with that idea. I wasn't aware of the GMAP thing; thanks for mentioning it. I'll have to check it out.

FSUIPC and FLIGHT? Any chance?
Hmm..that's interesting about the developer. I thought FSUIPC, or something like it, "might" be a way to tap into FLIGHT while its running. Based on my understanding of how FSUIPS works with FS, it would not require an SDK from MS to make it happen. It would take someone with some high level programming skill to unlock the memory locations where FLIGHT is storing data etc., and manipulating those by poking values into them that result in a change while the game is running. Fundamentally, that is where FSUIPC got its start. I don't think Pete is the kind of programmer (if one at all) to really dig deep into the cyberworld of FLIGHT, but then again, neither am I. :-) I'm just thinking out loud here.

FSUIPC and FLIGHT? Any chance?
I just starting thinking about the way FSUIPC currently communicates with FS, all versions. Even though the architecture with FLIGHT has changed from that of FS, I would think in theory, a new FSUIPC could be created that uncovers the memory locations for peeking/poking just like FSUIPC does now with FSX. Surely someone could expose the proper offsets and be able to build addons for FLIGHT just like is being done today with the legacy of FS. Any ideas? Pete Dowson, if you're there would you like to chime in?

One thing I observed as a beta tester that I think has contributed heavily to the very bitter response from the pulbic. During the beta there were hundreds of suggestions from the testers themselves literally begging for certain features to be added to the game. For the most part, all of it fell on deaf ears from the FLIGHT team. Now this is just my perspective, but the appearance was, MS was not interested in anyones ideas period!, only reports of bugs. That really infuriated a lot of users who have been very long time FS fans, many of which are members here and are very well respected in the FS community. The backlash that has followed, is in response, I feel, from the "we don't care what you think" attitude coming from the FLIGHT team. I'm not saying I think the very brash responses are welcome or in any way acceptable, but I completely understand. The very public MS invited to test the product, were shunned by the FLIGHT team. Its only human nature to respond likewise. So sadly, those disapointed testers had to find someplace to vent their frustration. AVSIM became a target for that.
