Default Routings in FSX Flight Planner
Hi folks. I'm still getting to grips with FSX, but there is something I have found that I want to check on. It's to do with the default routes loaded by the standard FSX flight planner, and whether it's possible to update them to be more realistic. To explain, most of the flights I am doing are IFR short-haul hops from UK based airports to either mainland Europe, EIDW/AA or internal flights. These may be anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours, so several in a day, I do quite a lot of flight planning. What I've seen is that the routes FSX generates by default for a lot of the UK traffic pattern is the complete opposite to that performed in real life, and I want to know if I can either patch or update these. A few examples: 1 - LFPG to EGKK/LL would route into the UK from the eastern end of the south coast into the LYDD sector, expecting a TIMBA/BIG arrival respectively. When FSX generates the plan, it goes north up the southbound only airway towards and through DPE, which in real-world would put it head on to all the Paris arrivals. 2 - Jersey to Aberdeen. Real world this would likely either route up via bhd, bcn, monty, right towards ribel and then depending on time of day go via dcs or nateb or it would route avant-mid-ock-hemel then again depending on day either gasko-nateb or up to dcs. In FSX, it loads EGJJ direct BCN, dogleg right towards EGNX, then pretty much straight direct towards nateb. 3 - EGPH to EGLL Would be via dcs, nugra, tobid, then into bnn, mostly on vectors. In fsx, it gets a lovely shortcut direct to dty, which is the northbound side and so would again be head-on to outbounds in real-world. I accept using the default kit there may be limitations - just I am wondering if there is a way around them. If not, would anyone recommend any particular flight planning kit that may be better adapted for current routings. I know there is an element of change in any plan, just want a more realistic starting point. Thanks SW

For real-world ops from LHR, 35 minutes from the 27s to Mach2 would be about right.

ATC and TOD in real life
UK reply: If you are inside controlled airspace receiving a control service from an ATC Centre then you descend when instructed to do so. This would either be as a: a) "Descend" instruction which you are expected to follow within approx 30 seconds, and usually at a rate of 500ft/min or greater (can't remember the UK AIP reference from memory). b ) "When ready descend..." instruction, which is as it says - You are cleared to descend, when you are ready. c) "Descend on the glide..." if on approach and established on the ILS. a & b above may be accompanied with an 'expect flxxx level' to aid in descent profile planning purposes. I don't know if FSX ATC can do expect levels - not seen any yet. Outside of controlled airspace, if receiving a Deconfliction Service, then I would expect you to descend only when instructed, as if you don't want to be controlled to that level, then you would be better requesting either a Traffic or Basic Service, and you may be being deconflicted against traffic at a lower level. Again, don't know if there are any payware tht can do DS/TS in the UK FIR in FSX.

Advice regarding AI Flights
Hi all, I'm wondering if someone could provide some advice or answer a couple of questions. 1- Using WOAI, I've loaded on the main UK carriers and some core European's too as I want to fly out of UK fields and have them look realistic. Am I right in thinking that if I load (for example) Qantas, then the system is still keeping track of them even though they are halfway around the world? Is this a significant system overhead? The reason for the question is that as well as the UK fleets, I want to see AA/Delta/Qantas/Air New Zealand etc arriving and departing. If there is no overhead, then I'll get loading. My thought otherwise would be to find a suitable model, even though flyable, and have it do a short hop from another local field, so I see the movement, but the aircraft isn't airborne and being processed for long. I can do this using AT Traffic Editor. Ie - I could stage them to/from EGUN or somewhere with the right runway length and plenty of parking. Anyone got any comment (other than 'why are you doing that' :rolleyes: ) 2 - When pushing back rather than powering back, is there any way to tell the tug which direction you should then point? (Suspect there is and I've just missed it.) 3 - What is the cleanest way of removing the fake airlines from the sim? I think on FS2004 there was a file you could rename out of the way and that did the job. I don't mind the variants being listed in the choose-able aircraft, just I don't want to see them when flying/taxiing. I'm sure there will be more questions, but so far search is answering them. And finally, thanks to all the great model makers & painters out there for some superb models.

FSX will not install
I have Win7, 64bit running AVG and have installed, and then re-installed Gold without issue. It is memory intensive though, even with multi-core, and I too found transferring the archives took time, although Windows overstated the copy time by a factor of 10. LEt us know what happens with the new disk.

Help Needed - FSX Gold - Missing SDK
Hi Marius, Thanks for the tip about copying the files. When I re-installed, I did get the SDK install screen, but it disappeared as soon as I chose to alter the install path. So, I went to the copies, extracted and installed the required SDK's and it works. Now, I just have to hit the search function to find out how to do a few bits and bobs.

Help Needed - FSX Gold - Missing SDK
Hi all, First time poster so hopefully this is in the right place (wasn't sure if it would be better in the SimConnect forum). I recently purchased FSX Gold via the Games for Windows Marketplace, which meant I got it as a download, not physical disks. Installed and works perfectly. I'm now wanting to add an AI Traffic Builder, and believe I need the FSX Acceleration SDK to do this. I've checked the FSX Program Files folder and cannot see an SDK sub-folder. As I don't have physical disks does anyone know how I can get the correct SDK's loaded? I think I need FSX SDK, then the FSX Acceleration SDK loaded on top. Any help appreciated, and hope this is in the right place.
