  1. Right now I am running AT&T DSL The speed is limited, My cable company has very high speed Internet. My question is is there any way to upgrade to high speed cable and still have access to my DSL account. I don't want to cancel my DSL as I will loose my e-mail address. If there is a way how do I do it? Can I use some kind of router switch? Thanks, Bob.

Having a dual internet connection just to keep your email address is a bit crazy! Just call your ISP and tell them you want to keep the email address, I know my old ISP would let you keep your email address for life even after leaving their services.

even if they charge you a small fee to keep it you will save in the long run.

  2. Zeddock.

First off, I would purchase FSUIPC and install that. Secondly you should then disable joystick in FSX, this hands over all configuration to fsuipc. Now to calibrate your equipment (what sounds like you have is a simple and common setup) there are PLENTY of walkthroughs already, I personally found the manual with fsuipc very hard to read the first time round, but you will find the program is very easy to use after a while. Read through this, should get you on the right track: http://fsuipc.simflight.com/beta/SIMSAMURAI+FSUIPC+TUTORIAL.pdf

I suggest you get all your functions working as required. then come back and decide what you want to do next.

You can have a look at this tool too, it puts all your instruments onto a separate monitor which is useful for trainee because you can have your primary monitor for full VFR use. http://simplugins.com/html/fsx.html

  3. hey bro,

what you have done is correct, you disable the controller in FSX but that means you have to reassign EVERY axis and button in FSUIPC. So whatever button you use to look around with needs to be set in FSUIPC. The FSX settings now have no effect for you.

I believe what you do is, (dont have ipc infront of me right now) but go into the buttons tab, then start moving the button that you wan tot use for your camera then it shoudl detect that button and you just assign it to the camera action.

Hope I got your question right.. I don't see any reason why you would have to have joystick enabled in FSX to allow your weather addon or simconnect to work..

  4. No problems with the Orbx FTX products working together. Just set FTX Central to "Oceania" and you will be good to go.

As far as the three global products being used for New Zealand in place of the FTX regions NZNI and NZSI, don't even consider it! The global products are better than default, but not even remotely close in quality to the FTX regional products.

The final thing to consider is that the Global Landclass for Oceania will be the last area to be released (6 other regions to be released ahead of it); so you could be in for a little wait.

Great thanks for the reply. that is what I suspected. One more general question. Will having the FTX base installed make any difference at all when I am flying over a region that a have region specific FTX installed for? or does the region specific totally take over?

Although now with even more research I am even more confused. Looking at youtube videos I see people are running all of these products together FTX global, FTX vector and FS global 2010, LC and some using "mesh" aswell.

How does these all work in with each other? and what is mesh?

It seems to me the common combination is:

    FTX Global

    FS global ultimate

FS global 2010 to cover and regions you don't have ultimate installed

UTX or FTX vector (one or the other)

mesh (no idea what this does)

Can someone enlighten me? will the orbx vector and LC and global products (when they are fully released) cover everything needed?

  5. Bit of a noob question here sorry.

I want the most accurate representation of the world with little to no fps hit.

    Here's where I get a bit confused.

I can go and buy these three products

    1) FTX global

    2) FTX LC

    3) FTX vector

which if I am correct should make the whole world look a lot better and more accurate without any real performance hit.

Heres the other thing though, I already own orbx NZNI and NZSI (new zealand north/south island). will these packages override all the above 3 products, if I am correct region specific packages like NZNI basically contain all the data that the above 3 products would but with even more detail and eye candy? I have the two orbx sceneries installed in fsx, and am migrating to P3dv2 currently. I want to understand before I make a mess of my install like I did with FSX :P

So question is, should I just install all 5, and will it order them correctly for me. (or do install them in a specific order?)

or do I not need NZNI and NZSI installed as the global packages are good enough? I only fly around other countries for fun so don't care if they are a bit out. But NZ I need to be the best possible because thats where I fly for real.

  6. I have P3dv2 running. I have been playing around getting it running as smooth as possible, in which I have done a fairly good job considering my system is pretty cruddy.

Theres an option in the menu I cannot get enabled "hardware tessellation" its a tick box and says it requires a restart I cannot get this to enable! tried enabling then restarting obviously. but it won't stay ticked. I kinda of thought this was a major pro point of v2, is that it offloads more work to the GPU hardware. Will it not enable because my GPU is not good enough?

I know a lot of people are having to disable there's because of performance issues but I would like to at least try it out. My GPU is AMD HD 7770.

at the moment I have no addons installed at all. My main problem is, I spent two days tweaking my settings so now I get a lovely 30fps consistent when flying over Auckland NZ (NZAR/NZAA) with very conservative settings but Im happy with performance and the graphics. However with the exact same settings when I went to another airport, (LDDU - Croatia) I was running at 8fps.. quite a big difference. I thought the default sceneries would be somewhat at the same level for all countries, but seems thats not the case at all.

Either way, is there a setting I can change in the .cfg to enable hardware tess to at least give it a whirl?

  7. Hi John, alot of wireless routers have a feature called "client isolation" this prevents users users being able to connect to other wifi users, its mostly used for internet cafe type scenarios for security.

I would suggest you have a look if you have thats enabled.

also you should check the IP on both of the pc's and try to ping one from another. If the ping fails the above is your problem. If the ping succeeds then something else is the issue.

    :)

  8. Hi Guys, I am a student pilot, learning to fly in the Cessna 172R. I have the saitek cessna pro flight yoke and throttle quadrant (why the heck did they ship it with a quadrant and not a TPM like the cessna has by the way :P ). I have the pro flight rudder pedals, trim wheel, the multi panel, the switch panel and the radio panel.

I have a lot of spare buttons. namely the rocker buttons on the yoke and the switches below the throttles. (I also have a pitch trim on the multi panel and a elevator trim wheel - aren't these the same thing? can i remap the pitch trim to something else?)

Just wondering, if anyone has some good suggestions on what other functions I could map keys to that is somewhat realistic.

I like playing around in the jets too, so I need speed brakes/spoilers too maybe park brakes or cargo door open close or pushback request?, where's the best place to map these to? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

All I am really trying to achieve is getting the most accurate cockpit that I can with the gear I have :)

  9. Ah that's bad. do they have a BIOS update for the board ?  what about the 8320 is that supported ?

If the above are not supported at all and you don't want to change to the Intel Platform than these are the ones you go for

    6350

    6300.

Ima lready on the latest firmware, dammit. Looks like you have to have the rev 3 board to support 8350 and 8320 :(

    I can support 6300 not 6350.

here is my board and all compatible CPUs: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Gigabyte/GA-970A-D3%28rev._1.0_1.1%29.html

  10. Hey if you have the AM3+ motherboard then it is only better than you upgrade to a 8350 or 8320 , they will perform.

I am on a 6300 and she is nice with FSX, all systems need some tweaking to be done.

Dude I would love to go for a 8350. But my board is a rev 1.1 and all information I can find says that chip is not supported :(

  11. thanks for all the top replies guys!

so very helpful, because you will be pleased to know... im GOING INTEL! (haha!)

The thing is, I do have the money now, (bless the IT industry) but I just prefer it in my pocket than in anyone elses :P

    Just a few pointers though
I am mainly playing prepar3d now, which as I believe is more GPU intensive than CPU intensive in comparsion to FSX, so perhaps its not *as* important but ill basically try and get the fatest i7 I can with the money I decide to spend. However I can say right now GTX780 is out of my price range. Local price is $880 for a standard version.

But heres the real issue, and Its making me nervous thinking about it. Currently I have win7 ultimatex64 on an SSD, there is pretty much nothing bar the OS on there so no majors with that. BUT my storage drives and where my fsx installs is a 2x2TB RAID0, im using the onboard RAID controller on the mobo. whats going to happen when I plug those into a new board. All that data could be gone burger with one wrong setting. Getting another 4tb of storage space to back it up is going to be another $250..

oh and at the moment my specs are:
    mobo: AM3+ - AMD 970 - GA-970A-D3
    proc: fx-4100
    gpu 1: raedon 7770
    gpu 2: raedon 6670
    ram: 2x 4gig 1600mhz
    Sim monitor: panasonic 37" FHD
    PC monitor: samsung Syncmaster 22"

-nothing is over clocked, and I don't want to OC anything in the new hardware either.

  12. Yikes! you guys are givimg me a hard decision now :P

I totally agree Intel would be better and if I was building now I would totally go the i7 route. hmm well in terms of my local prices, I can get an FX-4170 for $180 and that gives me a boost from 3.6 to 4.2 which is not bad bang for my buck.

On the other hand the cheapest z87 mobo I see is $180 then an i7 4770K 3.50GHz is another $465.

arrgh what to do, might need to find some way of comparing before I buy I think.

  13. Ok guys, I want to upgrade my CPU. My current mobo supports these CPU's below so for a simple plug and go upgrade which of the following should I go for, I will be mostly playing prepar3d and a bit of FSX. currently I have the 4100+ But I feel like it hits 100% too often and causes stutters. So the question I am not sure of is, should I be going for the 8 core with slower clock speed or the 4 or 6 core with the highest clock speed possible? Lets just say for arguments sake they all cost exactly the same and price should not be a factor in this decision :)

edit: sorry it formatted horribly, see the table here: http://uk.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3908

  14. Hi guys, I have just installed prepar3d v2 after using FSX for the last couple of years. I am very impressed by the graphics and overall performance is a bit smoother than FSX even with higher settings.

problem is, I get really bad stuttering, what I did was wind all the settings down to medium and turned off AA and everything, now I could run it happily at 28+ fps and it was smooth, but every now and then (and its not consistent) Ill get a complete freeze lasting around half a second, or moments where frames jitter very badly then it corrects itself and its happy again. and it really ruins the experience because its happening about 10 times a minute. the fps indicator doesn't show the issue it still reports 28fps

The install is totally clean there are no addons at all. default scenery and planes.

My hardware is AMD AM2+ 4600 quad core @ 3.8ghz, Raedon 7770 GHZ running the SIM big screen and Raedon 6600HD running the system monitor, 8 gb ram, 4tb RAID0, SSD system drive. (Also I only have a 420 watt PSU which relaly needs to be replaced!)

Only thing I noticed was the application only seems to use 2 cores of the CPU well the other two were doing nothing. I had 4gig free RAM when I checked the task manager with prepar3d running.

Im looking at upgrading the video card and RAM if necessary, but would like to get it running smooth before I do because I think there's a settings issue somewhere

  15. Hi Guys,

I have the cessna pro flight system with one quadrant. I have just got FSUIPC v4.8 registered which i thought was going to do what i need but I cannot get it working this is all I want:

    1) the single throttle lever to control the single engine in a single engine plane

    2) the single throttle lever to control both engines in a twin engine plane

    3) dito for a 4 engine plane

    4) throttle negative action (below th detent) to be configured as reverse thrusters for all 4 engines

all of the above without having to hot key or change anything between aircraft types.

The screenshot shows what I setup, I deleted the asignment in FSX control. and set what I thought made sense.

Now the behaviour I have is after the change:

    1) in a 4 engine plane the throttle lever does nothing

    2) in a signel engine plane the throttle is either full on or full off.

Please help I scoured everywhere but still cannot figure it out.

  16. Hi Flamer,

    Make sure you have

Wide view aspect =true.         set in your .cfg file,   as having it set to false, can make instruments and controls appear too close and limit outside view.

As to monitors,  bigger is better in my opinion

    Ron.

Ok well mine was set to false, so I changed it to true, however it didn't change anything, this is a screenshot of what i see:

    http://postimg.org/image/of4yrz61z/

would be very keen if someone could post a picture of what they see with a single larger higher res monitor.

  17. I currently have a single 22inch widescreen running 1680x1050 reoslution. When I use virtual cockpit mode, My controls take up about 80% of the space leavign just 20% at the top of the screen for outside. (and no periphal vision at all).

I don't have the room for a multi monitor setup, I was thinking ZI could go for a 27inch monitor with 2560x1440 reoslution. I just wanted to chekc that would give me a much better experience? The cost of those montiors is relaly expensive so i don't want to spend that much if a single monitor setup is still limited. also i know I will probably need a graphics card upgrade which is fine because I needed one anyway.

other option is I can buy a 30 inch LCD TV with 1920 x1080 resolution for under half the price of a monitor.
