  1. Issue resolved, to an extent. Game is not loading Ultra settings correctly. The below YouTube video explains the issue and fix. The generic buildings now populate with much more detail and appropriate location. Still prefer the photo scenery, but the alternate is vastly improved.
  2. Hopefully this works. Copy Link - https://imgur.com/a/qd1bqUN
  3. Enjoying the game, still lots of tweaking. I haven't played for a while as my X-56 throttle kept dropping out, which appears to be resolved with a powered USB hub. Anyway, I'm rather disappointed by scenery tweaks. Flying over my old home town, half the town is nice photo buildings (can pick out all the individual houses), and the remainder is now generic generated block buildings. I much prefer the photo realism of the former - is there anyway to manage this? I'll upload an image when I figure out how. For awareness, I have the following settings: Online Functionality ON Bing Data World Graphics ON Photogrammetry ON Data Limit OFF Bandwidth UNLIMITED Rolling Cache ON (default 8Gb, will likely move and increase) Most graphic settings on Ultra / max level of detail (RTX 3080, 2K ultrawide)
  4. I really want to enjoy this game, but I can't get through more than 5 mins of flying before the throttle completely cuts out. I'm using an X-56, drives installed and all functions working appropriately in Windows game controllers. Within the game I have tried default and my own profile. In that, I have the throttle mapped to "Joystick L-Axis Y" and mixture mapped to "Joystick L-Axis X". The controller is decoupled so the two levers work independently. After flying for a short period of time, the throttle drops to 0 without any input command the throttle axis is unresponsive. Sometimes it randomly works again, but there is no pattern or consistency. I've removed keyboard bindings and any other associated binding that could be causing a conflict to no avail. The controllers are plugged directly into two USB ports in my mobo. I am confident the hardware is ok as there are no issues in DCS. I've searched across forums for tips on this but have not found a solution. Has anyone solved this?
  5. Apologies for my poor choice of words. I meant to say that the forum I was verified to post in seemed pretty inactive (at this time), and I was concerned about the possible time to resolve. Thank you for the reply. I am delighted with Rex Essentials - the environment is simply amazing and I feel I've only just scraped the surface.
  6. Well that was a simple lesson learned. On my old machine I always used winzip, but for Rex I used Windows unzip utility (new build system). Well, I tried again with winzip, and, its now installed.
  7. Hello, I'm hoping someone might be able to help with my below problems regarding rex ess plus w/ O/D. I've also posted on the Rex forums, but they are pretty slow and I don't even have access to the support forums - so not quite sure that will be of any use. I purchased REX Ess Plus w O/D yesterday evening, and downloaded the full 8.5Gb zip file using a download manager. Now downloaded, I am attempting to install and have no success at all. I've followed the instructions in the manual for required FSX settings, and am staring at page 8 right now for all the instructions (e.g., where to install etc). When unzipping the download file, I have 18 items: - 13 Cab files - directx_feb2010_redist - dotNetFx35setup - REXEssentialPlusOD - REX Essential Plus Product Manual I tried to install by double clicking 'REXEssentialPlusOD' (application file), but receive the following message: 'The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (320bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher' To confirm my below sig, I am running Win 7 64 bit. My OS is on C:, FSX on D:, and right now my downloaded REX files on E: (data drive). I planned to install REX on my D: drive. Can anyone help please? This is incredibly frustrating! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Win 7 64bit / I5-3570K / 16Gb DDR3 1600 / Nvidia GTX 660 Ti / No overclock 1 SSD Samsung 840 Pro 256gb (OS) / 1 SSD Samsung 840 Pro 128 gb (FSX) / 1 WD 1TB 7200 (Data) FSX Acceleration / Internet Active / Avast Antivirus / Windows Firewall / UAC Off
  8. Thanks for the feedback. Given the favorable performance of the SSD since installation, I opted for a dedicated SSD for FSX. The overall performance (albeit negligible according to some reporst once flying), couple with a system geared for SSD's was the deciding factor. The prices still aren't great, but I figured 128gb should suffice for now. I'll be a casual FSX'r at most; game installation and scenary (England, and possibly Orbx Global once released). I estimated at most my FSX install will reach 45 to 65 gb; more than enough headroom on 128gb. Should I ever get close or run out, well, a great excuse for an upgrade at that point (probably take my 256gb OS drive and replace that with a new toy).
  9. Thanks for the feedback. For your FSX drive, are you running an SSD or HDD? Also, if HDD did you consider cache?
  10. Hello - new to the forums and looking for some feedback/advice on what would be a good setup for FSX on my new build. My computer is based on an I5-3570K (going through OC process now), 16GB Ram, GTX 660Ti, Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (OS), WD 1TB 7200 64mb cache (data). I'm currently working my way through the 'Software and Hardware Guide to FSX' posted on this site, and various other posts (most of which include feedback from Nick N, who seems incredibly reputable!). My options/questions are the following: 1) Knowing FSX should be installed on a separate drive, should I install on my 1TB data (D:\) drive, which also includes about 150Gb of music, pictures, docs, etc? 2) This is still a build I'm setting up, so should I partition my 1TB drive with, say, 250GB as a first partition (mapped to D:\) for FSX, and have all my other data/storage on the remainder of the drive (mapped to E:\)? The way I understand it, being the first partition, there would be less distance to for the drive to travel. 3) Forget all the above, and buy one more drive for FSX. In doing so, I am leaning towards another SSD (probably 128GB Samsung 840 Pro, or 250GB Samsung 840 non pro), or a 7200 HDD. If going for the HDD, does it matter whether I have 16mb, 32mb, or 64mb of cache for this drive. I have no problem with 64mb cache other than I'll end up with a 500GB or another 1TB drive which will barely be used and feels wasteful! Also, for option 3, as I understand it an SSD offers smaller improvements to FSX (load times and textures), and no noticeable improvement to frames. As such, for price reasons, a regular HDD might be my preference. --- Ideally I'd like option 2 to work, but wanted to validate partitioning a drive won't have unknown adverse affects on the FSX setup. Thank you for your feedback.
