  2. Figured since I'm 50 now, I'd bring this thread from the dead. I've been at this since 1985. I've been on Avsim and other sites since inception under some different names. It was mentioned about arguments or flaming from younger members. I had seen disagreements in these forums for a number of years. Not sure why since we all have the same hobby. It seems that has died down considerably, which is nice to see. I mostly lurk since I dont use FSX or P3d. I own both but cant get the fluidity like I do with FS9. I'll monitor how MSFS2020 performs before I purchase. Looking forward to it and it should interject new blood into the sim.

I do miss the days when we had Project Freeware Group, SGA, IFDG, Posky and many others. Thankful we have groups like TDS and HJG along with multiple freeware scenery developers giving us great addons for free.  Guys like Opa and others who were always willing to help others here. It's great we still have Avsim and FlightSim.com. It appears to me that the forum participation and freeware addons are slowing. More people are going to facebook groups. Those of us who remember the IUP fs servers where the freeware use to be kept remember the transitions to the Avsims of the world. With Facebook, people upload to drop box and then eventually the file isn't available anymore. Its great coming here to Avsim or Flightsim to download a file you might have lost from 10 years ago.

Sorry to bring the thread from the dead. look forward to see what the future brings but hope we still have access to the past.

  3. I have the Thrustmaster TPR’s. I’ve been enjoying this hobby since the 1980’s. I’ve had a number of different controllers over the years. The TPR’s cost around $530-$550 usd. Probably one of the best set of pedals out there. Highly adjustable. Very large and heavy with a high quality feel. I did have an issue a week or so ago with a toe brake Sensor that I think I got fixed. Note that Thrustmaster is completely shut down due to COVID. They come with a 2 year warranty but I couldn’t get anybody to help. They were purchased from Dell. I strongly suggest not purchasing from Dell or any other product from them. They wouldn’t help with the defective pedals and said I have to go thru the manufacturer who is closed for Covid. Other than the minor issue, a great product.

  4. I posted below about my dead Go Flight Yoke. It took multiple times to get them to respond. Finally got a response on FB messenger telling me to email their tech dept. I did. No response. Messaged on FB messenger again and finally today got a response back. They say they have circuit boards but no resistors or chips available to install on the boards do to Covid. I asked for the board and schematic and I would source the resistors and chips to install. Crickets,  yet they are taking orders still.....

Before Covid they looked like they were on life support. Nobody has any inventory, their social media pages are crickets. Their forums are silent. I spent $750 for a paperweight that doesn’t work. I hoped they could help but didn’t. I would strongly suggest avoiding Go Flight. They are not the company they use to be.

@Camsdad13, that is a shocking way for a company to treat a customer. You must have consumer protection laws in the US. We have the Sales of Goods Act in the U.K. which was brought in in the late 70s. Goods have to be of merchantable quality. Clearly this unit wasn’t.

Rather than speak to them you should write a letter of complaint to the chairman at head office detailing the problem with dates and events. Make sure you state your contract is with Dell, not Thrustmaster. Send it recorded delivery which means someone has to sign for it so you know it has been received.

I know it’s a pain but the small guy can and does win. Here we have a Small Claims Court for cases of a few hundred or thousand pounds. There should be an equivalent in the US. Attorneys are expensive. Do it yourself if you’re up to it.

Ray, as always great advice from a great guy.

    Thank you,

    Jeff

  6. Not a good week for me and Flight Sim controllers. My Go Flight GF Pro Yoke system that I bought a couple years ago decided to die on me. It appeared that the USB connector had come loose from the circuit board. Attempted reaching Go Flight and received no response. Called and emailed again today. I ended up ordering a new plug and soldered to the board. Still doesn't work. I went on Go Flights Website and the yoke isn't offered anymore. I now have a $750 paperweight. Does anybody have any ideas how to get e new circuit board or get Go Flight to respond? I honestly feel the company is out of business or going out of business and I'm stuck.

@Camsdad13, your contract is with Dell, not Thrustmaster. Use distance selling rules to send it back to Dell. Research those rules and you should be covered as we in the U.K. would be. Deal only with Dell.

You could also contact your credit card company if you paid that way.

Thanks Ray. I contacted Dell multiple times. I ask to escalate and they hang up. I reached out on social media and they refuse to honor it. I contacted the Better Business Bureau in which they contacted Dell. I had a lady leave a voicemail. I called her back on 4 separate occasions and she wouldn't call back. Finally yesterday, I held for her and thankfully they didn't hang-up on me. She was the rudest person I think I've ever dealt with. Talking over me out of the gate and refusing to listen. She said Dell isn't going to do anything since it was 3rd party fulfilled thru Dell. This was not stated anywhere when Ipurchased it. The bad part was I financed it thru my Dell Financial Services account and paid it off when I got my statement. Here is the kicker, it went bad the very next day I paid it off. It went from hanging toe brake to full left rudder deflection immediately. In control panel, it was all over the place. Long story short Dell is claiming my contract is with Thrustmaster. Thinking of just giving it to my attorney to handle and go on living life. Getting too old for this word not allowed anymore.

  8. I personally will never buy a product from Thrustmaster again. I purchased the TPR Thrustmaster Pendular Rudder from Dell. First off, Dell never stated that the product was coming from a 3rd party (manufacturer). It had a Dell part number and ordered thru Dell, paid for thru my Dell account and paid to Dell. After about a month of very minimal use the right Brake started to hang. It got bad very quick. Go to contact Thrustmaster and you cant because they claim COVID. Yet they are open and marketing the new Airbus products, go figure... I contact Dell for a product replacement. They wont replace the product claiming it came from a 3rd party. Wished it would have stated that when I ordered. So basically I'm stuck with a $550 paperweight. Still under warranty but can't get ahold of anybody at Thrustmaster to process. So they can market and develop these new products but cannot answer emails or pick up the phone.

  9. Cyclic controls main rotor movement for Left, Right, Forward and backward.

Collective controls rotor pitch for lift.

    Pedals control yaw

Thottle is a twist grip on your collective.

Flight sim is horrible at replicating Helo's

Think of your self balancing on a ball. That is what its like flying a helo.

The 206 in FSX is poorly modeled to start with so it is even more difficult to operate properly.

The main thing you need to learn is to use tiny cyclic and rudder inputs. Major movements will have you chasing the chopper.

Gentle and slow is the key to learning rotor craft.

Rick were you in the Black Widows? Noticed the 188 AHC

  11. ATSG (Airborne) is doing a number of 737 conversions right now in Tampa. Amazon is picking up a number of the Boeing 737 BCF Line. They also increased their stake in ATSG in January.
It looks like carriers want to hold on to their 757’s right now. I think Boeing and airlines both regret shutting down that line.

Afraid not, it was a Fed Ex pilot who told me that one when I gave him a lift to the smoking shelter behind stand 65 from the remote stand where his 757 was parked at EGCC and we were talking about the grounding of the MAX and the continued use of NGs. I presume he knew what he was talking about, since he was a pilot for Fed Ex, albeit on the 757 rather than the 737. The info might be on the 'net somewhere, but as I say, I didn't learn of it from there.

It’s not accurate. He may have meant 757’s from United but Fed Ex hasn’t purchased 737’s since a couple in the early 80’s. I can say UPS has no plans to buy 737’s either. At one point it was looked at to start retiring 757’s when we were in a recession. It is their smallest aircraft. Demand for 757’s from FDX increased at that time to replace 727’s. UPS decided not to do that. UPS just picked up more MD-11’s at a steal from Lufthansa.

  13. 39 minutes ago, Chock said:(Boeing Converted Freighters) are indeed being made and potentially there will be a 900 conversion - in fact a production facility in partnership a between Boeing and Guangzhou Aircraft is due to open in China this year to begin converting 737-800s into freighters - there are a few problems with the BCF programme which may give the conversion of A321s into freighters more traction.

This means demand is high for 737 NG airframes suitable for a BCF conversion, but the stock of these is limited, for a number of reasons. First up, you have operators such as Fed Ex acquiring large numbers of them in blocks from operators such as United.

Can you provide a link where you state Fed Ex is buying 737’s from United?

  14. On 2/15/2020 at 4:46 PM, Chock said:

Not much in it as far as volume is concerned unless you are talking about the longest 757 variant. Otherwise I think the shorter 757 could probably fit one more AKH ULD in it because it is about six feet longer than the A321. However, I think the real difference would show in the MTOW, which is greater for the Boeing, not least because the 757 is really overpowered compared to the A321, so it would probably be a more versatile freighter. I guess that is why Fed Ex has loads of them.

UPS was the launch customer for the 757 PF back in 1987. They purchased all new builds and have 75 in fleet with P&W and RR powerplants. Fed Ex was way later in the game and purchased used pass to freighter conversions. UPS was also the launch customer for the 767-300 Freighter in 1993 with 72 in fleet. All new builds except for 3. Both types are currently being retrofit with new avionics and panels along with the A300 fleet.

I don't see much market for the A321 conversion. Floors are not as strong to handle heavy freight. The 737 conversions are going strong.

  15. Nice to see we still have resident know it alls that are condescending to others left.

I’ve been simming since the early 1980’s. I’ve been on AVSIM since the start under a few different user names over the couple decades.

Nobody on this forum knows more than MS. Nobody on this forum will know more unless they work, contracted or testing MSFS. In that case they will be under extreme NDA’s.

I really don’t care what engine, what code or anything else is being speculated. I care about an extremely fluid sim. I care about a ton of freeware and payware growth like we had in the past. I’d like to see some backwards compatibility if possible. The main thing is having FS9 fluid operation with current day graphics and technology. The sim should be able to run at max settings and max performance on existing hardware.

{cough}..MD-11 {cough}. OK she's a freighter these days, but she's not dead yet!

I have some insight at UPS. The MD-11’s are scheduled to start being retired with total elimination in 6 years. They already have reduced roles internationally. Even domestic routes are having 747’s filling in. I have heard Fed Ex is planning the same but not sure of schedule and 767/777 will be replacing them.

You were right, I jumped the gun a bit on Tri-Jets.
