  1. 340-300 & 330-300 to the list as well
  2. "So if I were flying a heavy 777-300ER I might report to departure controller "NY Departure, New Zealand 1 Heavy with you climbing through 1500, minimum clean speed 265kt" and then proceed to clean up the aircraft and accelerate to, but maintain, 265kt, no faster, until 10K. Or have I got this wrong?" I can't speak for all operators and all crews but at my airline this is exactly what we do! As others have said if your in a wide bodied aeroplane flying a long haul flight the controller should be able to put two together and figure out your going to be going faster than 250. Other parts of the world you would request it by saying something such as request high speed or high speed bellow 10. Almost everywhere they will waive it particularly in an environment where most of the traffic is also a heavy! Sometimes however a controller may have a genuine reason not to grant high speed (slower preceding traffic, he's worried about your climb rate etc) On arrival you would simply say to air traffic request high speed bellow 10 and they will grant it if they aren't too busy, often the star you are flying will have speed constraints lower than 250 somewhere so you might say request high speed bellow 10 and no speed control on the arrival! If they grant it you better remember to adjust your descent profile to account for your higher speed and not mess up and look like a fool!!!
  3. Kyle is correct in saying that controllers in the USA can not waive the 250/10000 rule, however as mentioned in the thread in the USA one is allowed to exceed the 250 bellow 10 rule if there minimum clean speed is higher than 250! It doesn't mean you can open your speed window and start flying at 330 Knots we restrict our 777 to VREF30+80. On arrival Into USA ports then you must always comply with the 250/10000 rule. Other places in the world that have speed control of 250/10000 one might simply say request high speed or due configuration require high speed and atc will waive it but might impose some sort of speed restriction on you such as 280kTS or 300kts
  4. At my airline we leave the weather radar on all the time! It gets switched on just after the after start procedure and switched off during the after landing flow when the runway has been vacated! The PF will always have weather radar displayed and the piot monitoring will have TERR displayed on his MFD when operating bellow or cleared bellow the relevant MSA for the aerodrome that we are operating at
  5. Yes I am giving ample time for the APU to spin up ! I am loading the 777 Short as my default panel configuration! The aircraft loads with everything running and then for some reason about 10 seconds in after the countdown all systems initialising has passed the APU stops and all screens apart from the standby horizon die! I then can't start the APU or have the external power provide power to the aircraft even though the avail lights are green having tried to connect the external power through the FMCG menus! Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem! I haven't altered any files apart from customising options through the FMS! The only other thing I could think of was some kind of service based failure however there were no failures present. I agree it's strange that it was working fine and then all of a sudden not, quite possible user error but the way the problem occurs seems to suggest some kind of bug particularly because on initial startup it works fine but then all goes blank! Even load on other panel states doesn't fix the issue initially works then also goes blank!
  6. You sure seem like a nice chap. Anyway I know that one can hold the menu button for roughly 5 seconds to get the ground connections and panel states up etc as I said I read the manuals. Even holding the menu button and trying to load a different panel state results in the same problem! Thanks for the info on the battery switch, I actually fly transport category aeroplanes for a living and you should be able to turn the battery on and then fire up the APU you don't need ground power to do this!
  7. Checked the manuals already! I have preset the short turn option as my default panel state was working fine all along and then suddenly this happened! Deleted the plane re downloaded it and problem went away now it's back again! Weird Switches etc all work but can't get the APu to fire up or the battery to turn on!
  8. So I am having an issue when I load up my 777 the panel is completely blank apart from my standby attitude indicator?? I can't start the APu or bring up the menu in the fmc to connect ground power! Suggestions? Ben McCluskey
  9. Jet A fuel has a regular freeze point of -40 whilst Jet A1 freezes at -47. Jet A is used in the USA whilst the majority of the world uses Jet A1. What you might try doing is turning on all your fuel pumps on the ground whilst your at the gate boarding etc and watch the Fuel EICAS page in real life on the A330/340 you will observe the fuel temperature rising! I don't presently fly the 777 so I am not sure if the same will happen but it should since the fuel pumps are located in the fuel tanks!
  10.
