  1. So lets assume for a moment that with the DLC model so obviously making a lot of money for a lot of companies, that it will apply to the new Flight based sim from DTG. The question then becomes how it would/will apply.

If Flight had had all regions of the world available separately for sale when it launched, would it have succeeded? I think probably yes. It stands to reason then that this would be the most likely scenario for the new sim. Sell the regions as DLC, you buy the core sim plus a region or multiple regions with the rest of the world you haven't bought being water. I think this would work for them. I only fly in Europe so I would only need Europe, I'd be perfectly happy with that.

If it takes off then third party devs would have no choice but to accept the restrictive terms on offer to develop for the new sim unless they want to sell only to an ever diminishing market for FSX. Of course P3d is the elephant in that room. If/when they go 64bit and if DTG go with the DLC model then devs have an avenue and each sim will go it's own way, one marketed to us and the pros that use LM's sim as a platform for whatever it is they use it for and the other to the masses through steam. I think all of the simmers on here could live with that prospect.

All regions would not help much if planes for sale is made arcade(simple start, no systems to control)

  2. Well can post a question and reply from facebook.

Hum, no answer to my questions...

    1. Is the next Flight sim will be build with FSX engine or Microsoft FLIGHTSTORE engine?

    2. I really want a boxed version of the next FS that doesnt need Steam to play!

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition We currently own the updated Microsoft Flight game engine. Some sections of this engine are based upon the FSX engine. At the moment it is far to early to say whether we will use this engine or a different one for a new aviation simulator. Likewise we can not say whether this simulator will use Steam. At the moment we are focused on working with Microsoft and other developers to bring content to FSX: Steam Edition. - Martin

  3. If PMDG were to do one yes. Maybe in a little more refined way but given that the desired outcome is the same...

I doubt any military boeing will be picked. But market for those in a sim like x-plane would be bad.

As it was said it will be made for fsx also.

  4. I'm quite a fan of Mike Ray's books on flying airliners. In his earlier books he has clearly indicated that MSFS is the way to go for airliner simulations and not X-Plane. In his more recent books, however, he hasn't mentioned X-Plane either negatively or positively at all.

I hope this upcoming IXEG will change his mind because I would love to use an updated version of his handbooks based on the X-Plane platform. Of course, if IXEG would work together with Mike and release the Aircraft together with a dedicated book written by Mike, that would be absolutely brilliant.

There is the usual impatience that is common to flightsim hobbyists when a really promising add-on is soon to be released, but I must admit that while I would love to see an early release, deep down I prefer the IXEG philosophy of getting this done properly the first time. From what I have seen and read, it looks like this will be a superb piece of software engineering.

Aerox-planes and flightfactor, rotatesim and many other will do that before im afraid.
