    PS/2 poll

Thanks Simon, exactly what I thought and looking for confirmation..... it makes me wonder what the other 52 viewers were expecting on a post "PS/2 Poll" and did not bother to leave their remarks. Not at all helpful. :(
  2. How many PC consoles (not Laptops) still have PS/2 keyboard support? I noticed that current Tower PCs still have the PS/2 connections and wondered how common this was? Do you have PS/2 ports on your PC? Do you use them? The reason that I ask is that I did not want to go down the buy such-and-such interface then have to install/learn the software and/or buy loads of (expensive) kit so I thought to make my own input device which works rather well, though I say it myself. I would like to know if this is a viable option for others that are wary of meddling but would like a plug-and-play device? Clear skies, all!

    microsoft fsx

I ran across this somewhere and kept it - just in case! I hope it helps "I purchase FSX Delux edition when it first came out. I haven't used it for quite some time because I just didn't have the hardware to run it smoothly but I have recently upgraded my computer and thought I would give it another shot. I have been trying for 3 days to activate FSX but I keep getting this error message: A technical problem occurred while accessing the online activation server. License authorizatino was unsuccessful. We apologize for any inconvenience. The problem may be due to a temporary network interruption or the server may be busy at this time. If the problem persists, check your network connection and verify that you can browse the Internet with your Web browser. My internet connection is fine. I've tried over and over but the same thing keeps happening. Problem solved. I called Microsoft at 800-MICROSOFT and they put me through to the right technician. He told me to go into the FSX folder and to right click on FSX.exe choose properties and uncheck the Run in Compatibility Mode box. Then the activation went through with no problem."

    FSX freeze but sound continues

I had this problem a few times in FSX off-line but it does not happen any more and the reason? Check Task Manager for 100%; if I remember correctly it was simply disc access and/or memory. Scandisk - De-frag. etc. 4 gig. Memory capacity to avoid Page file Disc caching. Ensure Indexing is off!! Good luck.

    Beginners Interface Board Questions

That is a hugely ambitious project that you are going for but nothing that has not been done by many amazing contributions with an equal number of solutions. Like you, I found that I was getting bogged down by the amount of detail and options and eventually decided that Leo Bodnar's BBI-32 Button Box Interface - With Connectors Price: 29.99GB was the most straight- forward and comprehensive method other than buying off-the-shelf modules at commercial prices. To answer your question "What I don't understand is do you for example have to have an interface card that comes from the same manufacturer as your hardware in order to interface it?".: Many use USB and some have Arduino and other such interfaces and, from what I can tell, all need configuration of some sort and Drivers and/or SimConnect/FSUIP Now, I am not averse to a bit of coding but all these options distracted from actually getting on with Flight Simulation and confused the issue with having to comprehend and rely on some-one else's software so I eventually made my own Plug-and-Play interface that uses the (redundant?) PS/2 keyboard port with 32 inputs pre-coded with option up to 128 key sequences. I made a few extra and have made them available on ebay if anyone is interested. http://www.ebay.fr/itm/PS-2-peripheriques-de-ordinateur-Flight-Sim-/302125926771?hash=item46581bc973:g:ZDwAAOSwMNxXYXCK Good luck!
  6. Hi, two monitors for forward view looks weird because of the centre break but to answer your question; the speed is mainly about processing resolution and 'windowing' has it's own problems so if you are effectively doubling video memory requirement with another monitor then there will be some hit if your processor/MB is not up to it. (Check with Windows Task Manager). Using Nvidea 'SPAN' will give reasonable results but I suggest you look at their 'Surround' solution for best results. Back to your question, if you use the second monitor for instruments (dragged from main screen) then this will have minimal impact due to the lowish resolution. Personally, I have tried most methods and ended up with TripleHead2Go. You can see my set-up and musing here: http://compilation.pagesperso-orange.fr/flightSim.htm Good luck.
  7. Hello all, I am taking this opportunity to introduce myself and let you know of my Flight Sim fun. Winter is coming so I have started to think about firing up the PCs in the basement again. I apologize if you have seen this before as I have posted it on a couple of other sites to find a 'home' i.e my level. So many of you have made amazing stuff of which I am envious but I ain't spending that sort of money! I will be changing the set-up to include a decent instrument panel with real switches this Winter. I have what you might call a pseudo-generic simpit and, rather than take up space here, I have put together a few web pages if you would like to see my set-up and the bits I made. I will add the revised instrument panel as I do it. There are some tips on making (budget) controls and a few other gems. http://compilation.pagesperso-orange.fr/flightSim.htm Since PCs sported colour I have been using Microsoft's Flight Sims, that would be FS98 I think, and it appears that I skipped alternate issues in that I missed FS2000 and FS 2004. Early on I decided that what-ever the short-coming of Microsoft it would be best to concentrate on just one Sim and was delighted to see that they did a fantastic job of the weather rendering in FS2004 so I upgraded to FSX as soon as it was available - not realizing that I also had to upgrade from Win98! Since FS2002 I have run multi-monitors on "WideView" until FSX when I invested in a TripleHead2Go, no problems with time sync. now and the virtual cockpits mean I do not need the instrument monitor. I did add Europe scenery enhancement and the Acceleration pack to FSX Pro which is great fun. I am listed as Didactech but you can call me Radar and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Panel Interfacing

Hi there, you are suffering the same as I was after dis-appointing attempts at keyboard hacking so I finally made a plug-and-play switch interface. I don't like having to keep adding bits and pieces even though I can write a bit of code, I just wanted to add switches and go. I have made a few extra and made them available on ebay at: http://www.ebay.fr/itm/PS-2-peripheriques-de-ordinateur-Flight-Sim-/301988077362?hash=item464fe45f32:g:ZDwAAOSwMNxXYXCK Upto 128 sequences in 4 Banks of 32 momentary or toggle operations are available. Being truely P&P does mean that you are stuck with my selection but if you talk to me nicely then I might be able to do something about that. Good luck which ever way you decide to go.
