  1. A new video is out: ILS in 4 minutes. Many airports are equipped with an Instrument Landing system. ILS guides the airplane horizontally to the runway, in a similar way as a VOR, and it also guides the airplane vertically on the glidescope to the runway touchdown spot. This video shows how to find the ILS frequency, tune it in the radio, use the CDI (Course Deviation Indicator) needles to reach the glideslope and stay on it, keeping both CDI/ILS needles centered. Microsoft Flight Simulator 16 Intercept VOR and ILS Let's plan and fly a short flight in the South of Corsica, during which we twice intercept a VOR radial and finally we intercept the ILS to line us up with the runway, after which we'll land using the ILS direction and glideslope needles.   4. The tool I use is Littlenavmap. To find point X is easy. Fly away on heading 350 with SCH 109.8 tuned in radio 1, with the OBS dialed on 350. You also already tuned ARI 112.4 in radio 2 and dialed its OBS to 275 (the text says 265, but on the picture it looks like it's over 270, anyhow, Littlenavmap will tell you exactly what it is.) No DME needed here ... you make the turn just before the radio 2 needle is centered. To find Y is not accurately possible without DME if there are no other VOR's or NDB's in range that can be used to line you up with the new heading. You may use a stopwatch and time the leg, while keeping a steady speed. Not super accurate, but it's the least you can do. You can look on the map for visual clues that could help you find the right spot. Or maybe the runway is already in sight.

The ILS is a special kind of VOR in the sense that it has just one radial, the one that lines us up with the runway.   6. Somehow something has changed. What you can try is to roll back to a Windows System Restore Point from before the issue started, assuming you have System Restore enabled on your PC.   9. @Pochi. Yes, there is a lower limit with Gsync (sometimes even 36), but when frame rates get below that an automatic doubling is carried out such that it's in the Gsync range again ... 26 fps is doubled into 52 fps. https://blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101-input-lag-tests-and-settings/2/
  10. @Noel I could do that, 32,34, or 40. Some test flying low above dense cities like Paris or NY showed frame rates could get close to 30 or even below, at least in older MSFS versions, I need to test again with the latest versions or soon 6 but I have been too busy to fly lately. At that time 30 looked like a good compromise.
  11. MSFS is not the only thing I do on my PC. Also I did not overpay for the card. And with a lesser card, at the settings I run, 4k would probably already have been hard. I'm happy this way.
  12. I run capped at 30fps deliberately as a trade off between a high/ultra settings mix on 4k while at the same time still giving my 3070 video card a bit of headroom. My monitor is an LG 48 C1, 4k@120hz, with Gsync. I use the 30fps cap in the nVidia settings panel. In the MSFS settings I leave Vsync off. If I use the Vsync 30Hz inside MSFS (and not use the nVidia cap at the same time) then the graphics are somehow more 'stuttery', not the exact right word, hard to describe, but with the nVidia cap things look more fluent (strangely enough maybe). Since the monitor has Gsync I could leave the 30Hz cap out. That will run my video card hot at 100% and it'll get me some 40-50 fps with these same high/ultra settings mix. I have tried and obviously the higher fps look more fluent with fast camera moves or when flying low at higher speeds. Since I mainly fly a slow Cessna 172 I prefer the 30 fps with the lower graphics card temperatures and fan noise.
  13. I experience this with the 'non G1000' Cessna 172 from the MSFS 'Deluxe' version. To the extreme even ... on mouse wheel rotation the trim wheel only switches between the min and max settings, nothing inbetween. Interestingly enough I have no issue at all with the G1000 Cessna 172.
  14. Thanks for the feedback guys ... it's appreciated. The intention is to create more videos, it's just that I lacked the time lately and the coming months I'll be in the middle of a move to new house. It'll probably be January 2022 before new videos can be added.

I've had only one CTD after SU5 so far, but I do remember it was during a session where I had deliberately turned off nVidia fps limiting (which I usually set at 30 fps, which keeps my 3070 nicely cool and quiet) to check if SU5 reaches higher fps. I noticed that with some menus fps went over 800, which seemed strange to me. After placing my nVidia fps limit back, this time at 36, I haven't had any CTD anymore. Could it be that some / many / most CTD's people experience may have to do with graphics cards shutting down? This could be worth a poll: - I use fps limiting and I do not / seldom have a CTD - I use fps limiting and I do have frequent CTD - I do not use fps limiting and I do not / seldom have a CTD - I do not use fps limiting and I do have frequent CTD
  16. I read somewhere the new G1000 has a brightness control. Could be this causes the initial darker screen?

  18. Could be ... I haven't tried. If that is the case though ... if starting a flight at a certain airport changes the user's graphics settings, which (should) reside in a completely different part of the code, one starts to wonder how this entire thing has been programmed.

  20. @TheDuderino Yes, it is very annoying, it already was and if after SU5 it became worse then ... well then that's a shame. Pleas are being made at several place around the internet for Microsoft / Asobo to not force the current settings (presumably toned down to make things work more fluent on XBOX) on everyone but to make them more user tunable, such that those who invested in high end hardware can get their improved graphics / LOD / ultra / what have you settings back.   21. These terrain 'pops' have always been there. They're especially noticeable in mountainous areas and along hilly coast lines. Nothing to do with your system, it's how the sim generates terrain graphics.
  22. Does anyone have this same effect after the update plus hotfix, or is it just me: 1. The trim wheel of the Cessna 172 (non Garmin, from the MSFS Deluxe version) can not be trimmed anymore but only jumps beween upper and lower limit. Just the non Garmin version seems affected, the G1000 version and also the Cessna 152 are OK. 2. Also I had my very first CTD after the update ... I never had one before. I have no addons. There's no proof these two issues are because of the update, but it sure is a coincidence.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 12 NDB & ADF with Garmin G1000 We're flying the Cessna 172 with the Garmin G1000 ‘glass cockpit’ and our challenge this time is to intercept the 98 bearing flying away from the Santander NDB to the Bilbao NDB. We’ll have a look at how to tune the ADF radio in the G1000 and how to show the ADF needles. Link to the video. Link to the article.
  24. Hi Jeff, I use MSFS. In the mean time I found out what the trouble was. Apparently, sometimes after installation of new drivers my display max frame rate setting had changed from 120 to 60, which caused issues with G-SYNC. So, I now know I have to check for that after every update and set it back to 120, which has been a couple of times in the mean time.
  25. Microsoft Flight Simulator 11 Intercept an NDB Bearing The video shows how to intercept a specific bearing to an NDB. We’ll be flying the Cessna 172 with gauges from the MSFS Deluxe version, which has a Bendix King KR87 ADF in the cockpit. We’ll see how to operate this unit, which also features a flight timer and a stopwatch, which we’ll use to time the flightplan legs. Link to the video. Link to the article.
