  1. And beyond? ๐Ÿ™‚ Not a big fan of logo jets....but Pixar is an exception. ๐Ÿ™‚ (love their movies)
  2. Decided to paint it on the Aerosoft A330.... Getting close to done...but still a lot of tiny details to wrap up.
  3. Painting in general, you can go to an insane level of detail (if you're crazy enough) Now.....don't let that statement make you think I'm the only crazy one around here...because when it comes to going to a level of detail way beyond what "normal" people would in day-to-day situations...let's talk about you simmers (yeah I'm one too...but in "painter" mode lately more than "simmer") Raise your hand if you use : Add-on aircraft vs only aircraft included in flightsim? After-market scenery? After-market airport(s)? After-market weather program? After-market shaders? After-market sounds? After-market flight planner? After-market subscription to Navigraph? Online ATC service? Hardware other than a keyboard, mouse and $10 joystick? Built your own home cockpit in some form? OK....I bet every person viewing this post can raise their hand on at least 3 of those items. ๐Ÿ™‚ (And this is just a small sample of crazy things we do in the name of simming...let's not even get into whether or not you sit for 8 hours at the controls while crossing the pond, or care if Steve puts the correct SELCAL codes on his cockpit placard.....he does.... hehe) Alright, now that we established that I'm not the only insane person in this loony bin.... Here is what I'm doing to make myself a nice A330 P2F aircraft (Google A330 P2F if you're curious and never heard the term before) Challenges: There is not a P2F model included in the Aerosoft package (nor did I expect or ever expect there will be) I can "Paint" the cargo door on....but it will never open (obviously) There are only 2 airlines flying it at the moment from what I can tell (DHL and Egypt Air Cargo)...sooo....very few pics of them to go by Almost no good closeups of the cargo door to use as a guide when painting. Custom bump maps will need to be created to add more than just flat paint to give the illusion of a real door there (that will still never open, hehe) Anyway....I used up my allowance of typing today in this post....here are pics of the door under construction: Just getting it in the right position and size is a challenge with the lack of reference material: Gonna also add dirt and wear as she's a freighter...and will get some even though the few pics I've seen show her clean as a whistle. Bump map work...there is a lot to do....add the effect for the door and lip itself, remove the bumps for the windows, doors and frames... and the fuse lines that no longer exist on the freighter. And to top it off...you have to work on one texture and 2 additional channels....so almost 3 times the work just for one effect. So far in the sim (without the dirt that I am adding now: I put the plane at an angle to the sun where you can see the bump effect on the bottom of the cargo door. Still a ton of work to do...after all..this is only 1/4 of the full paint (well less actually if you include engines and wings but thankfully they are plain Jane and only took a few mins to paint)...I still have 2 more fuse sections and the vertical tail to paint! Ugh! A lot of work for what will be a paint only a few simmers will enjoy....but I like flying freighters (when I eventually fly), and I like the challenge of doing something nobody is readily willing to do to produce what will be a cool-looking effect on a plane. ๐Ÿ™‚
  4. Hi, everybody! Today I went on a longhaul flight with the AS A330 and wrote a tripreport about it. DLH 594 EDDF/FRA (Frankfurt am Main/Germany) -> DNAA/ABV (Abuja/Nigeria) Airbus Industrie A330-300 D-AIKO, MSN 989 While we are just getting to our aircraft, the handler is already loading the food for the almost 6 hours flight into the Airbus. While the IRS is alligning, we can take a look at the OFP. Here is a short overview for the air traffic controllers: We take off on Frankfurts Runway 25C, then turn south to follow the ANEKI departure. From there, we actually just continue south, across the Black Forest, the Swiss and Italian Alps, Genoa, then across the Mediterranean Sea, passing Corsica and Sardinia towards Algeria. There we pass the Atlas Mountains, the cities of Constantine and El Oued, between Tamanrasset and Djanet further towards Niger. There we continue via Agadez and the former capital Zinder to Nigeria, where we fly over the city of Kano in the north. Then we start the approach to the 22 of Abuja. We'll take 40 tons of fuel with us. That is already well calculated, only about 31.5 tons are needed for the flight itself. But you never know how the thunderstorms will be over Nigeria, so an additional reserve will not hurt. Time to have a look around the plane. But all good, there is even time for a small photo: As we are unfortunately still in the middle of the Corona crisis, we don't have many passengers with us, only 153, but we can take a bit more freight with us, 23.7 tons. This brings us to ZFW of 162 t, which is quite a lot for the A330. In the meantime the boarding is almost finished and we are picking up our IFR clearance. A little bit surprising we get the RWY 18, and not the 25C. But good, it is quickly changed. After the boarding is completed, we also get the Pushback Clearance and are (almost) on time. From stand A50 we are allowed to push a pretty good bit up to N7: Meanwhile we start the engines, so that we can taxi to runway 18 without delay after pushback. We haven't even been to the holding point yet, they told us: "Lufthansa 594, wind 160 at 6, Runway 18, clear for takeoff!" And of course you don't have to be told twice, let's go! At a Vr of 165 kts we take off, Positive Climb, Gear Up! The climbout from Frankfurt was a bit boring because of clouds. Over Switzerland, however, the clouds have cleared up and a great alpine panorama was to be seen: But also some minutes later, over Italy, everything was full of clouds again. After not even 2 hours in the flight we reached the African mainland, here a picture over Algeria, shortly after we flew over the third largest city of Algeria - namely Constantine: ... After that, nothing comes except of sand for the time being: The Sahara. After some time clouds come up again, the ground becomes a bit greener and looks more inhabited again. A good time to enter our approach to the MCDU. As planned it will be the RWY 22 in Abuja, will be a really nice and comfortable approach. The outside temperature is 32ยฐC, so it will be really pleasant... Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, has 2.7 million inhabitants and is located northwest of the airport. The airport... Wait, we just started our descent. The airport has 2 terminals and handles about 2 million passengers per year - it is the second largest airport in Nigeria after Lagos. It has a runway which is 3600 meters long, more than enough for our A330: And as we sink through the clouds, the landscape becomes greener and greener: And then we are already on the ILS, which leads us to runway 22: Flaps one - flaps two - gear down! Approx. 2000 ft AGL we come out of the clouds and the airport is already in sight in the distance! Well, and with soft -103 fpm we bring our A330 also on the ground! Unfortunately there are still no really good airports for Accra, Lagos, Abjua, & co, so unfortunately only the default P3D and GSX flair... Yeah, that's it from my side again! I hope you enjoyed the flight again! Many greetings Matthias
  5. Hi all, recently purchased the Aerosoft A330 for v5 and as a Boeing guy I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. Is anyone aware of a tutorial or series of tutorials (preferably on YouTube) covering the basics (cold and dark > engine start/pushback > take off > cruise > descent > landing < shut down (plus anything else I've missed). Thanks.
  6. Hi, has anyone already created a script of Blackbox A330? I like to fly this plane very much and want to use a few switches.
  7. Taking her up at sunset to test the night lighting...thought this shot was worth sharing.
  8. Not the plastic surgery kind..the painting planes in flightsim kind...hehe. This is some of the detailed work that goes into paints....(one's having all these items) Starting with one of the hardest things a painter has to deal with..... painting TEXT near the tip of the nose. With KLM....you have a double-whammy because they paint A330-300 under the nose cone and the last letters of the reg (in my case KF) above the cockpit. To get a good idea of what painters have to deal with painting on a 2d map that gets wrapped around a 3d model...in this case a cylindrical tube that tapers at the end (i.e. nose)...try this: Get a balloon and a Sharpie With the balloon deflated, write your name on it. Blow up the balloon. See how distorted your name is? Get another deflated balloon and try to write your name so it will be perfectly straight and not warped in any axis once it's blown up. ๐Ÿ™‚ Also worth noting is that these areas are right against part boarders....one pixel too far and the texture goes off into the land of lost pixels ๐Ÿ™‚ Its a lot of trial and error to get it looking somewhat right...moving text one pixel at a time and seeing how it looks in the sim. A lot of work but in the end the results can be great! Other tidbits I added you see noted by the yellow arrows.... The cockpit frame is not painted (On KLM it's not...on others it is...) The red paint extends down the panel line on the "No Tow" paint on the nose gear door. The sensor has a gray/metallic color inside the red The array of sensors near the bottom...on KLM...has an extra set of "seal before washing" brackets The rain gutters are 3d on this plane...thus have corresponding 3d parts on the 2d map that have to be painted...1st you gotta find them on the map hehe...then remember to paint them. They stick out like sore thumbs when you have a non-white top fuse. You'd be surprised how many paints are missing this detail. I hope to have this one ready soon for you crazy simmers to blast out of Schiphol with. ๐Ÿ˜
