Replaced 2 970's with 1 EVGA 1070.  It is smoother for sure with about the same image quality.  Ground textures look good.  No sound and am using just the factory OC.  Happy so far.

Possibly if you have a strong OC overclock.  The Pascal architecture seems to remove some bottlenecks and runs smoother.  Still exploring.

Reviews I have seen suggest about the same performance with the 1070 and the 980ti. Memory bus and bandwidth are greater with 980ti may help with 4K.
