Got a question for a better understanding

Featured Replies

Hi,can someone explain to me, why the 757 gear problem is a Fly!II problem, since the only one plane with this problem is the PMDG's 757.Just want to understand, it gives me a better feeling ;-)Thanks in advance and happy flying :-wave

In order to have night lighting on an aircraft in Fly!II is to create two separate models: one for day, with its own unique textures, and one for night, with different textures. for all intents and purposes, these models are identical except for their name, and their texture maps. Fly!II handles them differently by self illuminating the night model's textures, so you can easily see the windows and other illuminated portions of the aircraft. The reason the night model does not work properly is that the part of the Fly!II code that handles the night model was never fully implemented, hence the need for Rich Harvey to patch Fly!II in order for it to work properly. The reason the PMDG 757 is the only aircraft to have this problem, is that the PMDG 757 is the first and only aircraft made for the Fly series to use night lighting. If you look at any other aircaft, they are dark at night.Hope this answers your question.VinPMDGwww.precisionmanuals.comhttp://www.vinscimone.com/dancnkid.gif

Vin,Thanks for the clarification. Since the Patch from Rich is unlikely to happen anytime in the near future (not that this is Rich's fault) would it be possible to remove the night textures in a simple patch to alleviate all the complaints? Also is it possible to remove the textures manually. If so, a workaround could be posted on the header of this forum and people could remove the textures if they so desire. I know its not a perfect solution but it may aleviate a lot of bellyaching on an old topic.Just my opinionRegardsPaul:-cool

Paul,as i understand it, it's not the night texture that is the cause of the problem. Removing it does nothing on it's own. All of the repaints I've done so far for this 757 do not use night textures and the landing gear/night time issue remains. There is code within the 757 that triggers the landing gear at night that has to be either removed or disabled. Not a change doable by we customers.Pete

Vin,now I feel very much better. Thank you very much for opening my eyes. Maybe I will try to simply remove the nite model with its textures, if this could be done. I have no clue so far. What about if you nail your clarification at the top of the forum, so there shouldn't be any question again about this point.Best regards

Pete,I was afraid that might be the case. I guess the only question I have for Vin or whoever at PMDG is, can you turn back the texture to the early beta version which I don't remember suffering from this problem or were to many code changes made to make this practical. I suspect I know the answer but I that I should ask. RegardsPaul:-cool

It can be done by the end-user without too much trouble (I think). I'll look into it and make a post...VinPMDG

Ok, Folks. If you desire to remove the night model from the PMDG 757, you need to follow these steps.1) Open the PMDG 757 POD in your AIRCRAFT directory2) Extract the file PMDG757200.LOD to the Fly!II/WORLD directory. Make sure you do not extract it with its folder, or you will end up with WORLD/WORLD/PMDG757200.LOD...3)Open PMDG757200.LOD with WordPad4)Find and hilight the following section of the file, starting with: ---- night-time models ----and ending with: ---- end models ----5)Delete this selection. 6)Make sure the last line in the file is: -- End of File --7) Save this fileIf this causes you any problems what-so-ever, simply delete the above file from the WORLD directory and you will return your 757 to its previous state. Also, if and when Fly!II is patched, remove this file from your WORLD directory to restore the night model.By following these instructions. You will no longer have illuminated night textures, but the landing gear problem should be solved.Feel free to post a question if you have further inquiries about this issue.VinPMDGwww.precisionmanuals.comhttp://www.vinscimone.com/dancnkid.gif

Vin:Followed the directions above, but with some interesting effects... Unfortunately I won't be in a position to play around with this for two weeks. I'm leaving tomorrow for a nice holiday in Italy with the family. I'll check in on or about 10/25....-DK----David KohlFly! Vin,today I got a chance to check the forum and saw your post. What can I say, that's simply great! Thank you very much for this (hopefully) temporary solution.I hope to get a chance to try it very soon. Should be this or next week.In the meantime thanks again and best regards.

Hello Vin, Thank you for your detailed instructions, it is appreciated.I seem to be having similar problems to David Kohl. ie it does not appear to be making a great deal of difference, after your amendments.I can work around the initial issue (as we all can) but it would be really nice to have the amendment so as not to have to worry what time of the day it is.Anything further that you may be able to offer would be appreciated.Jock McIntyreMelbourne, Australia

Hey David, See you are back from Italy. Hope the food was fine.Need to know how you went with Vin's workaround.Appreciate any feedback.RegardsJock McIntyreMelbourne Australia

I was not able to get it to work. The screenies I attached above are what happens when I edit the LOD file as per Vin's suggestion. So I just put it back the way it was (deleted the extracted/edited LOD file) and fly only in the day. Kind of frustrating, but then again I'm not saying anything that the rest of the forum hasn't already.-DK---David KohlFly!
