737 NG PFD Question

Featured Replies

I know there are two types of PFDs on the 737NG:1. I will call one the 777 style where it is a very large artificial horizion with the Altitude tape on the right and the airspeed tape on the left.2. I will call number two the Combined PFD where it is like four different gauges each in one specific quarter of the PFD. My question is: Which version is being modeled, and if both, how would a user select between the two? Thanks a ton, it is looking great!

Ah!That's my question:The 600/700 package we're developing as our initial release will feature the PFD/ND combination (similar to what you find inside a 777). The 800/900 package that will come as a later release will include the EFIS/MAP display combination (with the round dials).Don't worry, you'll be able to switch between the two very easily (possibly through a menu selection).Cheers,

thanks a ton--really helps

hey lefteris, i thought in the real one you could switch between both in all NG planes, is this then a PMDG decision or is it really 600/700(pfd/nd) and 800/900 (efis/map) are separate?Cheers

Lenny-in real life, the airline picks one of the two options, and asks Boeing to install it. This depends on various things, such as whether the airline already had a fleet of older 737 types (so the crew are familiar with round dials), etc.So we're one-upping real life here, by providing the user with a choice (once we're done with the 800/900, that is).Cheers,

I think -300/400/500 crews are only allowed to fly the EFIS/EADI mode aircraft, and also only with a brief learning process. I wonder what the requirements are to be able to fly the PFD/ND aircraft, anyone knows? I hope you don't have to go through the typerating again ;-)RegardsMark

Matthias-this is possibly the configuration for the air show... I doubt airlines would want different views for Captain / First-Officer... ;-)Cheers,

Ryan-the short answer is: Not in the first release. The difficulty is that there's (so far) no way for developers to know ground altitude (AGL) in any other place other than right below the aircraft.

Johannes-thanks for pointing out the link (and the methodology) to me.While this will certainly NOT make the release, I will have it under consideration for our next releases. (It looks really sexy, so I'll probably up it in the priority list, much to Rob's dismay).Cheers,
