What PC components are checked by the key generator?

Featured Replies

Maybe someone from PMDG can tell me what PC components exactly are important to the 737NG key generator. Is it only the hardware or is the current state of the software important as well?I.e., if I change drivers, (de-)install programs etc., will this invalidate my license as well? What if I attach/detach USB/firewire/external SCSI devices, does this count as hardware change as well?P.S.Even though I understand that PMDG does all they can to protect their hard work, I for myself are very unhappy with the current "hostile" licensing mechanism (wich will surely cost me some time in the future once my Windows starts to crash and I start to change my hardware). It's not the licensing system per se, but the way how licensing is done. It would be better if one could "activate" the product online in no-time like Windows XP (so, no mailing and waiting for the keyfile, no cumbersome copy-paste of the long numbers etc.; I for instance run FS on another computer than my Internet PC, but the two are networked and I have Wingate for Internet sharing)...Andreas

AndreasChanging External devices and installing and unistalling software should not affect the licesnse in any way. If you make a hardware change, reformat your hard drive or change your Bios, yes you will need a new key. Once we get past the floodgates of the initial release you should have no trouble getting a new key in a very short period of time.RegardsPaul GollnickTechnical Operations/Customer Operational SupportPrecision Manuals Development Group[www.precisionmanuals.com]

Does this include RAM and CPU swaps?

Yes, I'm adding RAM tomorrow. I guess it's O.K., seeing as I'm on temporary pardon anyway.Best,Bill
