Lots of Crashes and Lockups

Featured Replies

Folks:I'm getting all kinds of crashes after flying for 15-30 minutes. It always happens when I do something like push "P" to pause, or right-click, or click on a knob. The crashes are either completely garbled video and looping sound or a system reboot. Also, whenever I can shutdown FS2K2 normally, I always get an illegal operation in kernal32.dll.Using Win98SE, Ultimate Traffic, 2D cockpit only.I guess I'll reinstall FS2K2 and then install 737TNG only and see how it works.Ideas?James

Please check if you installed this sir. --------------GDI+ install--------------PLEASE follow the instructions on Microsoft's web site about installing GDI+ on your NON-WindowsXP PC. I also get 'illegal operation in kernal32 dll.' but omly when leaving FS2002.Also if I load any other aircraft when starting FS and then try to change to PMDG after a lot of HD activity it crashes to desktop.I have GDI correctly installed.neither of the above are giving any problems but I do wonder what is going on.David Pedder

Randy:Thanks for the reply (really enjoy your VFR view for PIC767 BTW).Anyway, I think I may have cured this last night, but you are correct, it is related to GDI+. I placed it in the FS2002 directory, which was an option. After getting all the crashes, I thought that GDI+ may have been the prob, so I decided to move it to the Windows/System directory which was the other option. I discovered that it was already there! So, after deleting the one from the FS2002 directory, I was able to successfully complete a flight. I'm getting ready for a longer haul in a few minutes; I'll report back.Oh yeah, I also got the kernal32.dll when shutting down FS2002.James

NOPE... prob still exists. After flying for about 1 hour I pressed "P" to pause and Whamo, completely garbled video and looping sounds.Should I have the GDI dll in the Windows/System to FS2002 directory? Which is best?Maybe I'll get the latest ATI drivers, but I doubt that will have any effect. At a loss...James

Well, I upgraded to the latest ATI drivers (Catalyst 3.5), but then I made the big mistake of reinstalling FS2002 to get a nice clean copy without Ultimate Traffic and other Addons. Now, all of a sudden, I have a DEMO version of the product I paid $40 for.Several things:1. PMDG needs to have a proper uninstaller that guides you through a successful uninstall so that the Reg Code can still be used. If this can't be done with the Anti-Piracy protection you use, then I suggest you find a different way of protecting yourselves from Piracy. It's quite frustrating to not be able to use a product that I legally purchased just because I reinstalled, and it's even more frustrating that there is no documentation on HOW to reinstall. Screenshots of what I now get:http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/21079.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/21080.jpg2. I'm still getting a kernel32.dll error whenever I shutdown FS2002 after using the 737TNG or if I select a different aircraft after using the 737TNG. Here's a screenshot:http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/21081.jpgLooking for some quick help.James

Okay, Lefteris got me back online, but I still have the exact same crash: garbled video and looping sound after pushing "P" to pause. This time it occurred about 45 minutes into the flght.I've now upgraded to the latest Radeon drivers and I've reinstalled FS2002.I thought it might be related to my Philips PSC706 soundcard, so I disabled the card to Hardware Profiles and was going to try it again, but I get a error about not being able to initalize DirectSound when I select the PMDG 737. So much for that....Can anyone help me?James
