July 21, 200322 yr The ground proximity warning system seems to be ridiculously loud and will blast in and wake the neighbours. Does anyone have a way to reduce the decibels without reducing other essential sounds?
July 22, 200322 yr Commercial Member LOL - it's designed to keep pilots from crashing into terrain, I would hope it's loud!I'd think if you really want to you'd be able to reduce the volume of the wav files using a sound editor assuming they're not part of the gauges. July 22, 200322 yr hi,Yea, I wouldent like it saying this in a whisper voice "uh sir, sir, you there, I think Ive spotted some terrain, you might want to pull up". :-lol. I like the loud fast "TERRAIN TERRAIN PULL UP" Andrew
July 22, 200322 yr That would be true if it reacted as in real life 737's ... I get the warnings on ALL my approaches - even if intercepting the ILS at intercept altitude ... I must say this is one of the major problems with the aircraft, but hopefully they have fixed this bug in the upcoming patch :DI have gotten used to turn off my speakers whenever I'm within 70 Nm from the arrival airport ... :)Martin
July 22, 200322 yr HiI think it would be great to have the GROUND PROXIMITY INHIBIT switches (Why not the whole GPWS panel) they actually have on the real one. Consists of three guarded switches on the FO side just below the inner DU. One switch each for inhibiting call outs for GEAR, FLAPS and TERR.http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/24876.jpgPMDG, is this something you are considering?Regards, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
July 22, 200322 yr I downloaded a free trial of a program called Goldwave (search on google) and reduced the GPWS sounds to around 50% of their original volume. You can find the .wavs in FS2002SoundPMDG
July 23, 200322 yr "The ground proximity warning system seems to be ridiculously loud and will blast in and wake the neighbours."I almost leapt out of the real pilot's seat when I heard a Weather Radar "Windshear Ahead" aural during a Weather Radar test a few days ago on a 747-400. It's even louder than the GPWS warnings. To be honest, I don't think you will have much of a problem once the GPWS has been fine-tuned/de-sensitized by the PMDG team (A fix has been promised ...please refer to previous messages on the subject). The real GPWS is a complex beast, however. Additional programming has to be added to allow for unusual terrain around some airports. I'm not sure if this could be implemented in a sim of this type.Cheers.Ian.
July 23, 200322 yr Could editing also be done with a program like Ahead Nero? (It has a wave editor). It seems to be standard on a lot of computers with CD burners.Thanks.Cheers.Ian.
July 23, 200322 yr All these ideas about turning down the volume ... well - I DON'T want the volume low - I want the volume REALLY REALLY loud, as in a real 737, but only when it's called for. THAT's the problem with this machine, it calls out warnings when they are not needed. It's a matter for the PMDG-guys to fix the sensitivity to match a real life aircraft better.Martin
