September 22, 200322 yr Hi all! After take-off with a heavy B737-700 - the GW being at about 160,000 lbs. - the aircraft only managed to climb to an altitude of 30,000 feet with an average 500 fpm from 25,000 feet upwards whereas it should be able to climb to at least 37,000 to 38,000 feet according to the B737-700 performance manual. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!Best regards,Michael
September 22, 200322 yr Although not as heavy i have the same problems with climbs, after 20k the plane climbs very slowly like 500 fpm and it takes for ever to reach its crz altitude of FL350, i do not have any derated takeoff either. Also i really hope you guys fix the deceleration on descent, the plane keeps maintaining the CRZ speed even when it reaches the T/D, then i get an "OVERSPEED DISCONNECT" message in the FMC because it has overspeed on descent, blowing all my waypoint restrictions on descent, its a real pain in the azz!!! September 22, 200322 yr Author Hi Clayton!Normally a derated take-off or climb power setting should not have any effect on the climb performance above FL150 as the power setting switches from the derated to the maximum climb power at that altitude. As described, I have also been experiencing this problem with the B737-600 and B737-700 being a lot lighter than on this specific flight. Also then I had difficulties to reach a maximum of FL350 at an average of 500 fpm above FL250, not to speak about FL410 which I have never been able to reach so far. From real world data I know that the B737NG actually quite often cruise at their maximum altitude of FL410 also at higher weights. Any advice from PMDG would be valued! Thank you very much.Best regards,Michael
September 22, 200322 yr The climb rate is basicaly decided by your climb speed. The higher you're selected speed-the lower your climb rate.Ways around this problem when reaching higher alt's is to select MAX RATE in the climb page on the FMC. or just reduce your climb speed on that page...even the mach speed.I usually climb at 315 IAS/.775 on the longer routes as I have loads of time, but on shorter routes, I select 290...JohnP 2.53 GHZ512 RAMWINXPGFORCE 4 128MB Ti4600http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewerhttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg
