2 flights so far with SU2!

Featured Replies

Boy, I was lucky - an hour after getting the email I was flying! I was using 'Flashget' download manager that kept trying until on the 59th attempt it got a lovely 118k connection! Both flight were on Vatsim and both were great. SU2 handles the sudden wind changes absolutely fantastically - the flightpath hardly changes! Within a split second of a windchange the autopilot is on top of the situation straight away.Flew into KATL and was high and fast on the base for 26R. I was cleared to 5000ft (I was passing 7000ft), right 240 to establish. Out with the spoilers, change the heading, hit LOC and the 737 did the best ILS capture :-) I mean, this was a tough one to capture for the auto - I was still in the right turn to 240, glideslope was dead center, 2500ft per min descent - I hit approach while bringing in the spoilers and she captured spot on ;-)Auto off at 500ft for a smashing touchdown and very nice deceleration! FMC at all stages worked flawlesly.Only thing bothering me is a sound problem mentioned in a different post. It only happens with the PMDG 737. All sounds get distorted at times. My system is:P4 3GHz512 RamGE Force Ti4400It may be the Ti4400 isn't up to the job and is causing a bottleneck and leading to the sound issue. Good job I am putting in an ATI 9800 Pro card tomorrow so I will report back then.Overall it is difficult to find anything to criticise but very easy to congratulate PMDG on a fine product. From start to finish an enjoyable flight!Ray Keattch.

You did not mention your sound card? There has been issues in the past with folks not having updated drivers, this seems to be limited to SOUNDBLASTER type cards. Is this in the cockpit pit or outside? Or both?Cheers,[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smithhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/betaimg.jpg

I think the sound problem is a RAM issue - I have an SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro, basically the best soundcard you can buy right now and I still get those sound things with the SU2 NG. I only have 512MB as well - 1GB is fast becoming the standard...Ryan

Is this in the cockpit>pit I finally solved my soundblaster problem after talking with Creative technical support. What you need with Creative Audigy boards is to have it use an IRQ that is not shared with anything else. The Audigy's pretty much use the interrupt continuously, and if there's something else using it, you'll get a nasty digital noise from the SB.with XP and modern motherboards, XP sets the IRQ's regardless of what you may set on the motherboard BIOS. In my case I had the SB and my internal IDE controller using the same interrupt - moving the SB card one slot over fixed the problem. How to look for a conflict:In XP, right click on my computer, then select properties. Then go to hardware, and start the device manager. Select View, then Resources by Type, then IRQ. Look for your SB card and see if there's any other PCI device sharing that interrupt. If there is, you need to try go fix it... moving the card will generally result in a new IRQ.

Crap I think you're right Tim - I just noticed that my Audigy 2 is sharing with none other than my freaking video card - that would explain a lot! Time to open up the case...Ryan

What I noticed today is that there is a Buzzing and Ticking noise when I'm in the cockpit, If I Press "W" to full front view, or go into SPOT view, it goes away. Not a huge deal, but definately noticable.Paul.(Soundblaster Audigy)

Paul, Those are MEANT to be there! If you ever sat in a NG you would know right away ;). Richard Probst's 727 has the same *ticking*, it'sthe niose the standby attitude indicator makes ;)..... Yes if you switch to any other veiw that is not a foward view, the sound will stop. This is a FS limitation, we could have had the sound in all panels but that would have included ALL views including outside so it's a compromise.[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Randy,Well there you go! As real as it Gets! My bad. I'm really impressed with this aircraft. Back when FS9 just came out, someone posted somewhere about the PMDG 737 being the best, so I checked it out, and thought "WHAT?!?!?! An aircraft that costs as much as the game, forget that" Well Upon reading all the comments and reviews, I was sold, and I tell you, it was WORTH EVERY PENNY AND MORE!Excellent Job.Paul.

Thanks Paul! One more thing, if that REC FAN or other cockpit sounds start to get under your skin (not to mention the Wife and kids!) just go the the PMDG OPTIONS menu to lower or turn them off completely ;)[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smithhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/betaimg.jpg

Actually Randy, there's a FAR GREATER chance of the Wife and Kids getting under my Skin, but I can't Mute THOSE sounds :(

You lucky dogs that already have SU2...i want mine bad...sounds like it might be another late night on the West Coast to beat the rush

Do I need to enter my customer number and Password into my Flashget download manager?Pete

Well,There's a more real-to-life way of doing that. Just turn your RECIRC FANS of on the overhead and all you have is the rectifier humming and the *vibrator* ticking! ;-)Regards,
