February 24, 200422 yr I've searched through the forums, but have come up dry on this. When I assign an axis (any axis, doesn't matter which) to the spoiler, I get very strange behaviour. If I deploy the spoiler, then retract, the spoiler suddenly jumps all the way to fully deployed. The only way I can retract the spoiler is to hit the / key. Some details:* FS2004* CH Flight Sim Yoke USB. Properly calibrated, and all axes are functioning properly.* Occurs even with clean FS2004 install and default aircraft.Anyone else have this behaviour in FS2004? Any workarouds? (i.e. an INI file setting, for example?)Thanks,- Bill - William Ruppel, CYTZ, VATSIM 816871
February 24, 200422 yr Hi Bill,It sounds like 2 things happening here. Try reversing the axis you have it assigned to and also set the sensitivity to max and reduce the null zone to near zero.Cheers,JohnBoeing 727/737 Mechanichttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
February 24, 200422 yr Author John, thanks for the input. However - the axis doesn't need to be reversed - it works as expected ** until I fully retract the spoiler **.Also, sensitivity and null zone make _no_ difference whatsoever.Looks like FS2004 weirdness, to me...Thanks,- Bill - William Ruppel, CYTZ, VATSIM 816871
February 24, 200422 yr Bill -I don't understand why you want to assign an axis to the spoiler??? Your yoke has only five, and they should be assigned to your ailerons (x-axis), elevators (y-axis), the throttle (z-axis), the propeller (z-rotation) and the mixture (y-rotation). You need them all for flying. Why not assign a button to the deploy your spoiler? May I suggest these button assignments:Button 1 - Parking brakeButton 2 - ATCButtons 3 & 4 - Rudder trimButtons 5 & 6 - GearButtons 7 & 8 - FlapsButton 9 - SpoilerButton 10 - Throttle decreaseButtons 11 & 12 - Elevator trimThe JOYSTICK_MAIN section of your FS9.cfg file sould then look like this:AXIS_EVENT_00=AXIS_AILERONS_SETAXIS_SCALE_00=127AXIS_NULL_00=1AXIS_EVENT_01=AXIS_ELEVATOR_SETAXIS_SCALE_01=127AXIS_NULL_01=1AXIS_EVENT_02=AXIS_THROTTLE_SETAXIS_SCALE_02=127AXIS_NULL_02=1AXIS_EVENT_04=AXIS_MIXTURE_SETAXIS_SCALE_04=127AXIS_NULL_04=1AXIS_EVENT_05=AXIS_PROPELLER_SETAXIS_SCALE_05=127AXIS_NULL_05=1BUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_00=PARKING_BRAKESBUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_01=ATCBUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_02=RUDDER_TRIM_LEFTBUTTON_DOWN_REPEAT_02=1BUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_03=RUDDER_TRIM_RIGHTBUTTON_DOWN_REPEAT_03=1BUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_04=GEAR_UPBUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_05=GEAR_DOWNBUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_06=FLAPS_DECRBUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_07=FLAPS_INCRBUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_08=SPOILERS_TOGGLEBUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_09=DECREASE_THROTTLEBUTTON_DOWN_REPEAT_09=1BUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_10=ELEV_TRIM_DNBUTTON_DOWN_REPEAT_10=1BUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_11=ELEV_TRIM_UPBUTTON_DOWN_REPEAT_11=1POV_MOVE_EVENT_00=PAN_VIEWPOV_MOVE_REPEAT_00=1This setup will allow you to land your aircraft using to two left-hand buttons in succession, the top one to deploy the spoilers and the bottom one to activate the reverse thrusters. You now have the best of two worlds, controls for propeller driven planes and controls for jets.Hope this helps,
February 24, 200422 yr Hi Bill,Are you using the CH control manager?JohnBoeing 727/737 Mechanichttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
February 25, 200422 yr >BUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_04=GEAR_UP>BUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_05=GEAR_DOWNIt's interesting that the FS9 Assignments menu doesn't have separate commands for gear up and gear down, just a gear toggle command, so someone not tweaking the .cfg file wouldn't be able to assign the gear to two buttons.I wonder what other undocumented assignments are possible, but that's a topic for another forum.
February 25, 200422 yr >John, thanks for the input.>>However - the axis doesn't need to be reversed - it works as>expected ** until I fully retract the spoiler **.>>Also, sensitivity and null zone make _no_ difference>whatsoever.>>Looks like FS2004 weirdness, to me...>>Thanks,>>- Bill>I've seen the same thing - I don't think any of the FS9 aircraft are modelled for a continuously variable spoiler.
February 25, 200422 yr I used to assign the prop lever/axis to the of the CH yoke in FS2k2 and that allowed me to open it just a little to add drag without have to take it to flight detent. I have tried in FS9 and it seems to jump to much. I have since bought the Hotas cougar and have quite a few of the buttons assigned to functions. I still have the yoke connected to use the prop and mixture levers with the flight control axis removed from the yoke. I found the Hotas to be alot smoother in controlling aircraft. It is a stick though and pretty pricey but it works well. Too bad the yoke is so jumpy. It served me well though for a few years. Andrew
February 25, 200422 yr Author John H,Well, it's a simple answer: I only fly the big iron - I don't care about mixture and prop axis. =)Sure, I could assign a button for the spoiler. But, I'd like to simulate the spoiler control on the 737 - and you need an axis for that. Thanks for the pointers, though.- Bill - William Ruppel, CYTZ, VATSIM 816871
February 25, 200422 yr Author John,Yes, I'm using version 3 of the CH Control Manager.Thanks,- Bill - William Ruppel, CYTZ, VATSIM 816871
