May 9, 200422 yr Took these on the flight from KSAN-KABQ. Great ATC in SoCal. Unfortunetly, I didn't take the return trip into SAN(I know, I lied ;)), so you guys in SoCal will have to ding me with that NDB approach at some other time ;)This is is as I am climbing out of SAN on that BORDER5 (;)) departure.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/75147.jpgI decided to go for the ILS8 arrival into ABQ, and this is what my FMC told me I had to fly. So naturally, instead of letting the AP have fun, I flew the approach.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/75148.jpgThis one is about 2500ft AGL. The sun is just barely visable. Beautiful sunet.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/75149.jpgPassing over the threshold.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/75150.jpg
May 9, 200422 yr Very nice screens! May 9, 200422 yr Excellent shots, Fred :D Very clear and great angles + lighting :D Love #1 :DHappy flying,Jason :-wave
May 9, 200422 yr Thanks Chris and Jason!Chris, I had 1000 lbs of fuel programmed into the FMC as my landing reserve - I wasn't messin around :-lol
May 9, 200422 yr Is that a circling approach? My manual says circling approaches arent approved in the NG.
May 9, 200422 yr You know, I don't know what kind of an approach it is...it was listed as 'ILS08' in the FMC DEP ARR page. It was great fun to hand fly :)But you are right, I believe the real NG drivers we have on the beta team have said that circling approaches aren't authorized in the NG.
May 9, 200422 yr Hi FredCould you tell me what set of lighting textures you are using? Mine never look that nice. I only have the FS2004 standard one's. I am talking about the wing lights or the runway lights for example...Thanks in advanceMartin
May 9, 200422 yr Wow, that didn't take nearly as long as I thought. I downloaded airport_lighting.zip by Mark Poole (http://library-beta.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=46230), installed the texutres, and used the recommened light alterations in the readme. Make sure to put the alterations in the display section of the fs9.cfg(took me a while to figure that out).I don't know if the above lighting addon changes the airplane lights, but I doubt it.
May 9, 200422 yr >Why not ?I believe the FMC's database can't handle circling approaches. Hence I believe a more accurate statement is: 'The FMC is not certified for circling approaches'.I don't drive the thing for a living, so I could be wrong.
May 9, 200422 yr Thanks FredI just got the files and will see if I can set them up. Thanks anyway for the info. These are really great shots! :DCheersMartin
May 9, 200422 yr >>Why not ?>>I believe the FMC's database can't handle circling approaches.> Hence I believe a more accurate statement is: 'The FMC is not>certified for circling approaches'.>>I don't drive the thing for a living, so I could be wrong.>A circling approach is when one flies a procedure that either:....doesn't lead directly to a runway (i.e. a VOR-A)....or leads straight into a different runway than you wish to use (i.e ILS 24 when you need to land on 33).In either case, once you reach the circling minimum descent altitude (MDA), if you have the airport environment in site and can maintain it, you VISUALLY circle to your preferred runway, maintaining the MDA until a normal landing can be made.I'm not aware of any FMS that can perform the circling part.
May 9, 200422 yr Well FMC's can't be programmed for visual approaches, but I know they are flown in the NG. Does this mean the pilots are forbidden to fly circling approaches except in VMC? or just in general. To Fred,The plate is burning a hole in the binder just waiting for SWA433 to make his return =P Why oh why is this butterfly flying around in my room :)It's a DME-Arc, as shown... here:http://www.naco.faa.gov/d-tpp/0404/00012I8.PDF
