FMC map not aligned....

Featured Replies

CaptainsI seem to have a small 'display' anomoly on the 800/900 (which was never there on the earlier 600/700) - when I've created a flight with the FMC, the magenta path seems not to align with the takeoff or destination runways on the main CDU. i.e. the path is always offset, as if I'm about to take off or land on a parallel taxiway etc.Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks for any help.Toni.

Sorry George - not sure how to create a screenshot...:-roll Here's how the display appears:In the centre of the screen are two white parallel lines depicting the takeoff runway. The magenta flightpath line should 'start' in between those parallel lines (i.e. down the runway centreline) but draws either to the right or left of the lines (i.e. to the side of the runway).Same appears when on appraoch for a landing. The screen appears to indicate that you're going to land off the runway (left or right).Any ideas?Toni.

ToniI think I know what you mean, and this has been mentioned during 600/700 beta testing.I think this is an issue due to the different databases used. FS have one database with runways, locations and headings. Navdata's AIRAC has another. They are not always containing the same data. And you are seeing the FS runway outside your window and on the display you are seeing the AIRAC runway.Do you see the same offset on all runways or does the offset vary with location? Hope it helps,

That's because the magenta line is DRAWING from your plane's NOSE to the next active wpt which happens to be anywhere but straight ahead! Try building a wpt stright off the rny downward and see how it looks..[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. RandyI think I understand what you're driving at, but the problem is most apparent when I'm using SIDs and/or STAR's...In particular, the SID I used this evening out of Stansted Airport (London) began with a climb 'straigh ahead' on the runway heading.Even more noticeable was the approach to my destination - in addition to the star, I also created a 'final fix point' 12 miles prior to touchdown, again obviously in line with the runway.Still, the display unit drew the magenta line to the left of the parallel white runway lines....Toni.

Are you sure you have'nt got offset course switched on via the fmc which alters the ac to a parallell course offset distance of your chooseing?check the manual/FMC offsetkavan

We might have a clue here....I've reinstalled using the latest AIRAC (0405) and PMDG Procedures for SIDS/STARS (0404), but still have the same problem. The airport used in the screenshot example was London Stansted, by Gary Summons. The same 'problem' appears at some other airports by Gary.I phoned Gary and his suggestion was that because his airports are accurately positioned (as per real life) and some of Microsoft's aren't (in some cases 'out' by as much as 50 metres), it's possible that the AIRAC database may be 'out' too (assuming it's compiled from the 'original' Microsoft data), which means that the magenta line will start from the wrong position. That said, Gary did admit that this is only a suggestion as he doesn't own the PMDG product....Does this make sense and if so, could it be root of the display problem?Toni.

It may be as Mats says due to different databases used. But the AIRAC contains datas of a merge between DAFIF (Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File) and real world datas, so I think this should be OK. However you could try another SID/STAR for EGSS. They can be found her: http://www.navdata.at/php/sidstar/dl_list....=PMDG&icao=EGSS.Second, try also to disable the add-on for Stansted and check then.
