Tutorial Chat 25MAY

Featured Replies

Ladies and Gents,Seems the chats are doing OK and we are all getting something out of them. Another one or two will be held on Tuesday 25MAY New Zealand time. How about 0200 GMT for one of them and another time slot to suit Europe and Aussie hopefully? I can be flexible on the times so please indicate in this thread what time would suit you best and where you are in the world. To participate in a voice chat with us please go to www.teamspeak.org website and click on the link to Public Server 2 on the right hand side of the webpage. This will open TS2 (u will have to have it installed of course:) ) and then click on the 737 Tutorial channel. A couple of small things:1. Please set up a Press to Talk button as the voice activation will make your transmissions choppy.2. Please use your real name in the Settings/Options/Other so that we know who we are talking to.3. Password for the voice server will be: boeingI am also planning to do a standard flight where you will be able to setup a flight in your 737 and I will be able to answer your questions as they arise regarding setup and AFDS manipulation. The flight will be NZCH to NZWN. Departure will be from Rwy 20 with a BU1 Departure and a STAR 34 Arrival to an ILS Rwy 34 at NZWN. Please see if you can get some charts for this flight. I will post further details in this thread if this idea looks like it is worthwhile. I may log onto VATSIM as NZCH Centre so that I can see each pilots SPD/ALT etc and provide guidance on appropriate modes and flight conduct. If you do not use VATSIM that is no problem as you will be welcome to fly the same mission at the same time offline and we can still achieve some instructional value. Please add me to your MSN. Mine is [email protected] and I will add you to the text chat conversation on MSN.Thanks,

Zapper,Im not able to be online at this time because it's in the middle of night by me.But If there are some tutorials about CI and Assumed temp. and etc.I'm always interested, only have to find a new GMT time that is able for me.Thanks,

How about 1000gmt for aussies

Hi Brad,Please check your emails.Michael

2am GMT is like 3am here, the time I'm usually very much tired or already in a deep sleep! :)I know teamspeak program, used it also and would love to participate! But maybe some other time, maybe weekend, some time that's good for everyone, or at least good for Europeans and you? :)Looking already forward to this!

Would weekend be the preferred time for most ppl rather than a week night?LMK,

Timings for chats:As we have a number of ppl scattered about the world we need to standardise our time communications so from now on I am going to put all times in an aviation format - why not eh? :D. This means you will have to work out your own tme difference from GMT but I will make the times to suit particular areas of the world as best I can.A webpage that may help you is:http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/There is a personalised clock there as well as other stuff of interest. So when I post a chat time it will consist of 10 numbers, for example 0405240200To explain:The first two digitsd are the year 04, the second two are the month 05, the third two are the day 24 and the last four are the time in 24hr clock 0200 that I will be online in GMT.So this time means 0200GMT on the 24th MAY 2004.The next Chats will be held on:0405242000 this is for ppl in Europe = 9PM Londonand0405250300 this is for ppl in Americas = 8PM 24MAY Pacific Time. For our Aussies and Kiwis I will post another time slot soon.Folks I will try and keep these sessions to about 60 minutes each so I would ask that you show up and connect Teamspeak a little earlier if you possibly can. We will again use the Teamspeak Public Server 2 and the channel name will be 737 Tutorial.I would like to set this tutorial up as a trip from NZCH to NZWN as outlined earlier. We will start with a quick chat about how to read and interpret Instrument Approach Plates and I will be referring to Jeppessen charts but most use similar formats around the world. If you do not have charts then these are from NZ CAA and will help:NZCH BU1 Departure http://www.aip.net.nz/pdf/NZCH_61.1_62.1.pdfNZWN STAR34 http://www.aip.net.nz/pdf/NZWN_33.1_33.2.pdfNZWN ILS34 http://www.aip.net.nz/pdf/NZWN_41.1_41.2.pdfSo the Route will be NZCH BU1 departure, a RADAR vector or two and then DCT CC NDB on 286KHz then to CABLE to join the ILS34. Set whatever fuel load and so on you like but I want everyone to plan CRZ at FL280. If you want to do it online I may try and be online as Christchurch Centre as I can transmit voice on both Teamspeak and ASRC simultaneously. The main purpose of this exercise is to be able to talk ppl through their FMS and MCP setup and manipulation and to be able to answer questions and offer guidance at various stages of flight. You do not need to have a complete waypoint database but I am using the PIC-PMDG_0405 Database available at http://www.navdata.at/php/airac/airac.php.I recommend default scenery and suggest that if you intend to join us that you give it a try beforehand and fly the flight before the actual event as well so that we aren't trying to fix snags with setups, databses etc etc. This is all a bit hit and miss at the moment folks so please be patient with me. I am hoping the AVSIM chapps or the Forum Admins will make this a sticky topic to make it easier to find. I may also add a page to my website outlining chat formats, setup etc if I get time.Hope this isn't all too confusing,Rgds,

I cannot speak for everybody else but weekends would be easier for me:-)

Hi there Brad,Must say I'm truely amazed by your efforts in sharing your knowledge and experience with the rest of us. Most kind of you! Will do whatever I can to join the 0405242000 event. All the best,

>NZWN STAR34 http://www.aip.net.nz/pdf/NZWN_33.1_33.2.pdfI don't know if this is the correct place to ask, but someone knows how to set the autopilot/FMC to head from a VOR to a NDB but always maintaining 15NM from another VOR? (Look at STAR 16 procedure in this .pdf)BTW, what the big and the small number between two radials means in the Mininum Sector Altitude? Thanks,

Hi Chief, don't worry too much about the procedure exactly.. I don't think that the STAR34 is available in the PMDG FMC database. If you don't have it.. and btw you cannot manually create a DME arc in the real FMS as it must come from the database, then don't worry about it.This is an exercise in real world adaption of teh PMDG sim and as such is a very simple flight. I am still learning about the sim as well.ATB,

Hi there Brad. Thanks for your amazing effort in this.As for the procedures at NZWN, there are SID/STAR's available for NZ here: http://www.austscene.com/. They contain the procedures for NZWN. However they are not updated for -800/900 as far as I know. Also be aware that the STAR's are written as transitions in the approach section. If there's interest for it I'll be more than willing to write new procedures for the ap's in this tutorial.Bernardo:Regarding creating a DME arc, this works for the FMC in the sim, I don't know how it's in real life though. Check out the FMC manual regarding creating custom waypoints. I try, if possible to make this as a part of the preflight procedures, as I think it's a bit awkward to create a lot of fixes in flight(higher workload etc). Best option is to have any arc's as part of the SID/STAR file.

Hi Gav,Yes, 2000GMT is 8PM GMT. 0300GMT is 2000 Pacific Daylight Time (Los Angeles) as they are on Daylight Saving Time at this time of year. Also AFAIK, London is currently on Daylight Saving Time which means it is an hour in front of GMT.That little link to teh world clock might help a bit.. I will check again to be sure but for now I will leave these GMT times as they are.Someone pls LMK if I have this stuffed up. So watch this space for changes.Tks,

Bumpity Bump.. hope we see you at teh chats.Rgds,
