New Navy MMA Livery?

Featured Replies

The Navy announced they have awarded Boeing the Multi-mission Maritime Aircraft contract using 737's to replace P-3 Orions. Any of you repainters out there want to do a Navy 737-800 NG?Here's the link to the Boeing MMA site:http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/military/mma/flash.htmlPeter HemmKTOA"The air takes me into its realm" - Beryl Markhamhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpghttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg

TimP3`s are four engine turboprops and are shore based.S3 Vikings are carrier based in the asw/maritime role.I`ll miss the Orions alot but I guess they`ve done their duty over the last fourty something years.Samuel

Hi TimThe P3 Orion is a modified version of the old Lockheed Super Electra four engine turboprop airliner. It is used by the US Navy primarily for anti-submarine-warfare and maritime surveillance patrol missions. Although entirely shore based, the P3 has been used to provide escort assistance to carrier battle groups. It was a Navy P3 that was forced down in China in April 2001 when struck by a PRC jet fighter.Best regards,Sandy

The P-3 is a ground up design that "resembles" the look of the L-188 not at all the same, nor a "modified" version. The S-3 is pretty much nothing more than a flying gas station now.The MMA is based on the BBJ2, so you'll be missing the extra fuel with a B738.P-3's rarely do ASW anymore, A 6 month deployment to Diego Garcia(with Detachments in Bahrain/Qatar/Kuwait/Oman) might if lucky fly 1 or 2 real world ASW flight. Primary mission there is(in no particluar order) Battle Group Escort, Maritime Intercept, Over the horizon targeting(not sure on stats for OIF/OEF but during Desert Storm 55 out of 108 Iraqi vessels destroyed were targeted by P-3's), Battle Damage Assestment, SAR, SEAL/Special Forces insersion, Reconisance(EP-3E), and some others that can't think of off the top of my head.If not mistaken the new MMA will be called the P-8 or P-9.

SuperBeeYep not much meat on the table for the asw boys anymore so I guess it makes sense to expand the roles of these platforms.Come to think of it I wonder if the MMA will be able to tank? That would come in real handy.Ah for the good old days in the GIUK Gap when the fishin was good.;)Samuel

the MMA will have a fuel receptical above the cockpit (like the other boeing's in military use) for use with the boom refuelling system. it won't be a tanker itself though.

Hi LaurieThanks,I see you gotten away from the 777/F18.Well if you`re haulin trash the PMDG/C-40 is the way to do it.Are you still flying for BAV?Samuel

I've got a great Powerpoint presentation on the MMA. It's a 1.5 MB zipped file (too big for a forum attachment). If anyone is interested in seeing it, email me and I'll attach it./R,Hawk
