July 13, 200421 yr Hi,I was flying from HEGN to EDDN and I noticed this: The MAX. Alt is lower then the OPT. Alt, should it not be the opposite???http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/83942.jpg
July 13, 200421 yr I think it's possible for your MAX to be lower than your Optimum if your optimum is too high. Not sure about this, so feel free to correct me please.Nick B.Continental Airlines 737NG Pilothttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg--AMD Athlon XP 3200+ @ 2.2 Ghz (Equal to 2.8 ghz)400W Power supply3x 80 mm Case FansSoyo VIA KT600 Dragon PlusnVidia GeForce FX 5200 128 mb2 x 512 PC400100 GB Western DigitalMicrosoft Sidewinder Precision 2
July 15, 200421 yr In a nut shell,No, OPT Altitude would never be above MAX Altitude.Maxixmum Altitude is the highest altitude at which the airplane can be operated. It can never be exceeded. It is determined by the FMC with three basic charcteristics, unique to each airplane model. The predidcted FMC maximum altitude is the lowest of:-Maximum certified alitiude determined during certification.-Thrust limit Altitude-Manuver limit Altitude (buffet)Floyd John Floyd
July 15, 200421 yr Commercial Member Ramon-No, optimum altitude should never exceed max, unless there is an error someplace in the calculation or code....In this case- i think we need to be looking at the tabular data or the FMC calculation...You happen to know what weight the airplane was at the time of this screenshot? July 15, 200421 yr Hi,I made another observation concerning the OPT/MAX numbers. I can't remember whether the OPT was above the MAX but what I remember is that for a flight with a weight of approximately 135,000 lbs I had for both a more or less equal altitude of ~40,000 feet. Now, according to the performance table (as far as I remember) the altitude with the lowest fuel consumption for this weight was something like 35,000 or 36,000 feet. Though the ground speed may have been a little bit slower than for a higher altitude with a slightly higher fuel consumption but I think I would never have made it to 40,000 with such a weight. I already approached 35,000 feet rather slow. Another question concerns the STEP feature. Obviously, this function is not implemented at the moment, though I thought that it would somehow "belong" to the OPT/MAX feature. Is this functionality so difficult to implement? Just curious.Best regards Alexander Kappes
July 15, 200421 yr Hi again,I was just looking again at the plot of the first message in this thread and to my astonishment I see that STEP is not grey (inactive) there. Whenever I fly this field is grey and I can't enter a number. I also never saw any description of this feature in the manual. Am I blind or what???Best regards Alexander Kappes
July 15, 200421 yr Author >You happen to know what weight the airplane was at the time of>this screenshot?>>Not for sure anymore, but I had a payload of a 184 passenger (wich is about 15055KG/33120LBs) with about a cargo weight of about 2760KG or 6085LBs and a fuel load of about 13330KG/29392LBs.So calculate that with the Basic weight and if gives you 72558KG/159990LBs.PS. I would like to have the step prediction to.

I just make the hole FMC White. It looks more realistic because I know wich options are working and wich one not.
January 17, 200521 yr I too have this problem where the OPT altitude is 100 ft above the MAX altitude everytime I fly the 800 no matter what weight I am. The problem doesn't occur when flying the 700. I haven't tried the 600 or 900 yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
January 17, 200521 yr I would love if pmdg would offer an upgrade or update for the NG Series some time after the queen and md-11, which updates such small bugs and introduce acars, upper overhead panel, hf comm etc... :9 I would pay for it for sure :-) Matthias
February 1, 200521 yr In all fairness, I think we've paid quite enough. And I certainly wouldnt pay for fixes. What chances are there of implementing an ACARS and Upper overhead if there isnt an IRS simulated? How would you suggest they implement HF coms?Dont get me wrong, I love my 737NG but I think I've paid enough for it by now.John http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewer
