Hi,I have a similar setup to yours as you can see and I seldom get less than 20 FPS. Had the same problem as you in the beginning getting the FPS I expected with my new X800 PRO. For me the cure was to uncheck Anti Alising in FS9 and let the display driver handle it instead.Cheers,

Hi Richard, Thanks for the info. Will try that. Can I ask you to do screen shots of your FS settings such that I can try them out exactly as you have them? Thanks,BoazEKCH

I have a p4 3.2C system here, and I disabled HT in the bios just to try out the above suggestion. All I can say is NO!!! Turning off HT appears to turn the PC into some old machine running windows 95! Loading up AS2004 while FS2004 is running freezes the system like the good old days, infact without HT, running more than one app simultaneously is a big no no !Certainly do not turn off HT because there is a major hit on performance, especially if you have more than FS2004 running, ie AS2004, UT, FSNAV , PMDG etc.Armen L Cholakianwww.veryquiet.com

hello I have flight simualator 2004 with all my settings on the max. My spec is:AMD 64 3400+Asus K8N-E DeluxeIQ-Eye caseXFX 6800 GT 256mb graphics2 160gb sata drives (mirrored)Creative labs LS sound card1GB Corsair TwinX 3200 RamRuns amazing with the new graphics card, brilliant. I recommend this card to everyone.

Though this may be a dumb question...Is there a major difference in running FS9 on Windows XP platform from Win-2000? Just out of convenience of formating, I'm still on Win-2000; I rarely see banner with Win-2000...Any advice?ThanksRicky

Hi Richard, Thanks for the screen shots. I am wondering, what resolution do you run your Windows at? The same as FS? Also, how did you overclock your X800? I found a tool that could do that, but you had to be logged in (i.e. physical user name) as Admin to run it. It isn't enough to be part of the Administrator group :-(Thanks,BoazEKCH

Sorry for unrelated posting that's been asked a Billion times. Please ignore my posting.ThanksRicky

Hi,Running Windows at 1024x768 and using a tool called ATITool to overclock my X800 card. ATITool is a very simple program yet with great features like the possibility to automatically find the max core and mem speed without any artifacts and it also lets you use profiles that automatically overclock the card when running a 3D application. You can download the tool for free herehttp://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/

Hi Richard, Thanks for all the help. I have now set my settings like you described (and in some cases more moderate). I used the ATITool to oc to 550 MHz and 540 Mhz (core and memory, respectively). The only difference is that I am running FS at 1280x1024x32. Still, in the virtual cockpit I am getting dips in frame rate down to about 4-7 fps. With those frame rates, I will not even begin to worry about what frame rates I will get when online. Can you see something obvious that I have missed? Do you also use the ATITool to set the AA for the card? Thanks,BoazEKCH

Hi,Hard to say, have learned that the framrate you'll get in MSFS can be dependent numerous different things. Some other 'tweeks' you could try to increase the performance are:1. Turn off indexing on your HDDs2. Make sure you have an otimal configured swapfile. There are many different schools when it comes to the swapfile but I have chosen to have a swapfile that is 1,5 X my RAM and also divided the swapfile evenly between my two HDDs and set it to a fixed size so the system doesn't have to increase/decrease the size of the swapfile 'on the run'. In my case that gives me a fixed 768 MB swapfile on each of my two HDDs3. Turn off the 'System Restore' for all drives under 'System Properties'. By doing so you will loose the ability to roll back your system but instead gain some performance4. Disable all services that are not neccesary in a home PC. You can find some good information about what services you can disable as well as numerous other performance tips on this page - http://www.sanx.org/tips.asp?action=performance5. Choose 'Adjust for best performance' under System Properties->Advanced->Performance->Visual Effects6. If you have SP2 installed for WinXP, turn off DEP by editing your c:boot.ini file and change the /NoExecute=OptIn swith to read /NoExecute=AlwaysOff. Not 100% sure whether this makes any significance difference, you will have to try and find out yourself. These were some things that might help you increase your performance, both in MSFS but also in general.Good luck!

Hi again,One more thing you can try is to change the AGP aperture size in BIOS. Also here there are many different schools and you will have to try what works best for you. Personally I have the AGP aperture size set to 32 MB. The idea behind the AGP aperture size is that the GFX card can 'borrow' the amount you specify from your RAM memory but if you have a GFX card with lots of memory that shouldn't be neccesary and you must also keep in mind that RAM memory isn't even near as fast as the memory you find on todays GFX cards. And yes, I set the AA in the hardware (device settings) rather than in MSFS. From what I understand, there's no difference if you use ATITool to set the AA or if you change the AA the normal way by right-clicking on the desktop and then choose Settings->Advanced->3D (or whatever the TAB is called in your device driver)
