Retract Flaps on Schedule?

Featured Replies

HiAfter Take-Off the procedure says RETRACT FLAPS ON SCHEDULE.What is meant with this expression?Lars

The schedule has to do with speed as you climb. There are tables in the docs that show you speed and flap settings, and those are duplicated on your speed tape as to where you need to be as you accelerate.

Go here:http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~speedy/And download the "Geezer Guide".This site and guide was done by a real world pilot who flies 738s for Pacific Blue and has a soft spot for simming and PMDG.....he uses it for practice before going on his simulator checkrides. The Geezer guide will tell you all you need to know.

Thanks for your quick answers. I'll take a closer look at the manuals and the Geezer Guide too!Lars

Here is a quicky for you1] If you are doing a flaps 5 TO, at V2 + 15 you can retract to flaps one @ V2 + 15 regardless of altitude.2] Normal procedures for flaps retraction depends upon the departure procedure at the airfield. Normally but not always, flap retraction begins at 1000 AFE by selection of thrust reduction and setting flaps up maneuvering speed - (thence FLAPS UP) but some noise abatement procedures call for 3000 AFE and even 5000! http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/90235.jpg Best Wishes,
Randy J. it's always confuses me..Let's say our thrust reduction is 1500AFE ( Flaps 5 takeoff). When 1500AFE I prefer select VNAV and let the Speed Cursor and Thrust beign controlled by FMC. 1500AFE, VNAV selected; Climb Thrust, set flaps 1. When flap 1 speed reached I Select Flaps Up. But we are selecting flaps up below clean manuevering speed, anybody knows why?

There is no need to wait on a flaps 5 to to retract to flaps 1 @ V2+15. Flaps UP manuevering speed is the UP BUG on the PFD speed tape, not flaps 1 retraction speed...Best Wishes,
Randy J. Hi RandyThanks for your answer.Do you have the flap maneuvering speeds for B737-700NG. I have looked in the manuals but not been able to find them. (the numbers including "1" in the above table is said to correspond to the flap maneuvering speeds, so without these your lost!)CheersLars

I think you are asking for something that does not exist on a manual. Flaps up maneuvering speed is where the UP BUG on the PFD is shown. There is no chart one follows, you just watch the PFD for the speed and set the MCP accordingly. You already know once the aircraft reaches V2 +15 (which VARIES) you can set flaps 1 on a flaps 5 TO. Since V2 varies then logically UP SPD must a varible too.... Best Wishes,
Randy J. Smith
http://www.rawbw.com/~bdoolin/shinault/Animation1.gifCaution!
