Lost my parking brake?

Featured Replies

Was going to take a little flight this morning when I noticed that the parking brake wouldn't set. The Control+. wouldn't work. I checked it out with both the 600/700 and the 800/900 - neither would set. The period would apply the brakes but the Control wouldn't hold the set. I changed key assignment to Control+, (comma) and it did work??? odd that the Contol worked with the , (comma) but not with the . (period). But the period would still apply the brakes. No problem with any of the other aircraft. Anyone had this trouble before? Could this be an FSUIPC thing?Terry

I've had similar problems and I think it happens when my rudder pedals/toe brakes get out of calibration. Any braking action registered by the pedals turns off the parking brake (a MSFS "buglet"), so if the calibration is off and there is noise from the pedals, it won't hold the parking brake. If you have toe brakes try recalibrating and see if that fixes the problem.Bill

Thanks for the tip. However I did find the problem. It turned out to be the new L049 Constellation installation that somehow corrupted key inputs. A beautiful airplane that has a bug. I'm going to let the author know about it and maybe can get it fixed.Terry

I must retract my last post. The L049 wasn't the problem. I must have a corrupt FS9 installation. After one application of the brakes from the Yoke button or the keyboard the brakes do not work anymore.Terry

Final update. Bill was right. My Rudder/Toe Brake hardware (CH) seems to be the culprate. Disconnecting my pedals solved the problem. . . now, how do I fix it? Calibrating did not.Terry

TerryI guess your CH pedals are as sensitive as mine. Set a deadzone on your brake axises either in FS or though FSUIPC. Or you could use the CH Control Manager I think. This means that the brakes will output 0 to FS before they are totally released. Noise from the brake pedalse while released was what caused the problem for me in the past. Hope it helps.

Mats,Thanks for the tip. I tried setting the deadzone in the CH Manger to 25 and the Null zone in FS to about 50%. I must say, I didn't know what the FSUIPC set/reset meant but none of the manipulation helped. I wonder if I tried to clean the pots on the pedals? . . . they aren't that old, maybe a year!Terry

I have had the same issue (loss of parking brake) with my CH pedals, although it has only ever happened once. I recalibrate them about once a week and I can still just tap them with my foot and the "brake" shows up. Just one of FS's many idiosyncrasies.

Thanks guys for all the help. I have managed to restore the parking brake but the regular brakes applied by the period or yoke button is still not working. One touch of the pedals and they are disconnected from the keybord and yoke. . . although the toe brakes still work from the pedals.Terry
