737NG + ActiveSky 2004

Featured Replies

Hello all,I'm having a bit of a problem when using these two add-ons together.Seperately they both work flawlessly. But when I use them together I get a crash to desktop. No error message. FS crashes but AS is still running. Now I've totally reinstalled everything and once more I get this crash, so I don't really know what's wrong (since others have used both without problems). I'm using a fully up to date and patched 737 and ActiveSky v1.1. Which I think is the latest.Any help is appreciated.Specs:WinXP SP2 + FS9P4 3.0GHz skt 775 800FSBAsus P5GD1 i915P motherboardAsus EAX600Pro/TD/128 128MB PCI-Express, Radeon X600Pro80 GB Seagate Barracuda SATA 7200rpm 8MB cache HDD 512MB DDR400 PC3200Could it be something to do with the grapics card I'm using, not many people are using the new pci-express cards?ThanksAhmed

AhmedI run AS2004 and the NG with great results! Must be something in your setup.>Could it be something to do with the grapics card I'm using, not >many people are using the new pci-express cards?I think you're on to something here. When FS crashes on you are you in full screen mode? If so try to run it in windowed mode and start AS. Other than that... I have no clue :-(Hope it helps,

There are a lot of AS and NG users so I am sure someone can help you out. But please keep in mind that PMDG does not offer support when AS is used in conjuction with the NG.Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. Active Sky Support is a Forum on this web site. Ask on that Forum and they will quickly respond. The latest version of active sky is 2004.5 which can be downloaded from their web site. I use Active Sky with FS9 and PMDG as well as many other people and I know of no issues with the combination.

Your situation sounds a whole lot like mine, and I'm pretty sure this is not AS2004 related, but that's only a guess. I have many problems with FS stability when changing windowed to non-windowed mode (whatever the need may be, AS2004 or other).Try this: Instead of using alt-tab, try to use ctrl-esc, which switches the task without switching between full screen/windowed mode. The effect is the same, except that FS never realizes it's leaving 3D mode, and the operating system brings up your normal windows application. You can simply click back on the FS9 icon on the task bar to switch back. That's saved me quite a few times. If I use alt-tab to put FS in and out of 3D mode (3D mode = full screen mode), I get an FS lockup, or at least, a black screen, on the way BACK to 3D about 50% of the time. If I try to alt-tab back and forth a few times, it's pretty systematic.Give that a shot.

Thanks for all your replies. My apologies but I don't think that I really explained what's happening properly. The point at which FS crashes is not necessarily when I'm switching tasks but usually during cruise about an hour or so into the flight. Suddenly FS goes without any warning.I do have one other application running British Airways Virtual's offline schedules program. For those of you not familiar this just monitors my flight nothing else, so I don't think that's part of the problem. As per Mats' suggestion I am trying to do the whole flight in windowed mode. So far about 1hr 40mins after take-off everything is still working. I've got further than usual, looks like its working. Mats if this does work, what do you think the problem could be, do you have any possible remedies?I'll stop off at the AS forum and ask them too, see if they know, but like Randy and Bob said this looks like a one-off so I could be stuck with it. :(Thanks,Ahmed

Ahmed et al,To clarify a bit what Randy is saying here. There has been some issues with weather add-ons and the PMDG NG. For one there was the wind shift issue. This is a FS9 flaw and was made visible with the advanced wx add-ons on the market. These wind shifts vreaked havoc with the NG's AFDS and could result in uncontrolled flight. The latest FSUIPC has supression for these windshifts and should be gone by now. Then we had some issues reported about the speed tape going to 0 KIAS. This, I think, was derived to the excessive icing conditions that occurs in FS9. Aircraft anti-icing/pitot heat will not counter these icing conditions, which has a value of 5 in FS variable terminology. The later versions of FSUIPC (registered) have possibilities to prevent FS to set a value above 4. Again this is a FS9 issue that is being brought to the surface with more advanced weather add-ons. It's not caused by the weather add-ons in themselves.Hope it helps,

Sorry folks if I spoke old news since I do not have Active Sky and did not want to give the impression that they don't work together because most times they do but this also depends upon having the updates and FSUIPC updated. Mats is correct that I was basing my opinion upon what use to happen so my apologies for the worng outdated information..Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. Hi!- Are You using Activeradar on Your flights?I had ctd

See if you have render to texture off and CW FPS friendly clouds installed. If you have the render to texture off turn it on (you could notice a 2D panel flicker during the weather update) and see if it crashes. If every thing goes as expected make sure that the 32 bit clouds are installed (the readme explains) and then you can turn it off again. If the BA application is not a module but a program it shouldn't crash FS since it's a separated process.Jos
