737NG sound

Featured Replies

Hi,I have been flying the PMFG 737-600/700/800/900 for a while now and I think PMDG does a wonderfull job. However, I have traveled with a boeing 737-800 for quite a number of times now and I think the real aircraft sounds completely different than the simulated aircraft (except for cockpit sounds). The engines 'whine' a lot more, especially at take off and the start-up sequence also sounds completely different. I wonder why this is, as PMDG says that sounds are recorded from the real aircraft.Dirk LuchtmanThe Netherlands

Is my opinion too, especially when you look at the size of the files. It's just not realistic enough imo. From what I've heard, there's pretty good set of sounds for 737 series from Ariane. That is, specific engines etc. Though they are not cheap. Might be worth getting them, I know I will :)

Are we talking about sounds in the cabin? Trying to figure out how you are taking off sitting in the cabin :)

I stepped into an online cockpit of a real 737-800 one time and I must say that the cockpit environment sounds very much the same as the PMDG cockpit. However, when sitting in a real 737-800's cabin, the overall noise the aircraft makes at all stages of flight is very different from the sound heard in the PMDG aircraftn(cockpit or cabin). Ok, in the PMDG 737, you're in the cockpit while the real sound is heard from within the cabin, but I guess the engines do not sound very much different in the cockpit than in the cabin.I just think the PMDG 737 sound is not realistic enough. I hope they will improve it in a future update or that at least the 747 and MD11 will have 'real' sound.Dirk

Well once you figure out a way to simulate sound from the cabin and from the cockpit let them know ;-) Yes the PMDG are sounds from the cockpit, and remember their pilot beta busters have recording equipment too for any little item that is need, a click here and switch there etc. Most important, like paint jobs, sound is very subjective! But I will side with the pilots 110% of the time..Best Wishes,
Randy J. Smith
http://www.rawbw.com/~bdoolin/shinault/Animation1.gifCaution! This program makes all your aircraft sound better, including the AI.Most improvements are in wind noise around the landing gear, flaps and spoilers. I really like the way windscreen windrush is simulated when descending through cloud turbulence, but your whole airport ambience is made more realistic via the fabulous take off and landing of other aircraft. It is payware, but you can run the trial versions before deciding.http://www.fshotseat.com/A number of other sounds are found in Avsim's library, such as improved groundroll for heavy jets, but you need to experiment with them untill you find some you like.As always, make backups of all your aircraft folders before doing any of this and remember, that if you go ahead, PMDG will not give you support.

You state that the PMDG cockpit sound and the Real 737 sound are similar, in your first sentence. In your second sentence, you say they aren't the same. I'm confused. If you change your seat location in a real aircraft, the sound is going to change. Try sitting in the back of an MD80 compared to the front of the cabin. It's like 2 different aircraft.

Are the 737 sounds, better, the same, or not as good. Any frame rate inpact?

This reminds me, are these sound waves red shifted or blue shifted? ;-)Best Wishes,
Randy J. Smith
http://www.rawbw.com/~bdoolin/shinault/Animation1.gifCaution! What I was saying is that the specific cockpit sounds you hear in a cockpit do not differ much between the PMDG 737 and the real world 737, but the engine sounds, as heard in the real cabin, do sound very different from the engine sounds heard in the PMDG 737 cockpit. So, unless the engine sounds are completely different in the cockpit than in the cabin of the real aircraft, the sound of the PMDG 737 is not realistic enough (for my taste).

If I were a pilot, I would have serious difficulty taking-off my precious 738 while sitting in the cabin, even if I was sitting in the front seat. But with proper training of my psychic abilities, I might be able to do this. I wish to do so actually, because only then I can validly conclude that the PMDG aircraft sounds are false. Thanks for your comments,Dirk

I did a trial version and I think the sounds are quite good, especially the AI traffic take-off and trust-reverse blast sounds. They're very good. I hope that Microsoft will incorporate better AI sounds in the next version of flightsimulator, it will make a huger difference. Silent AI traffic just doesn't do the trick.Dirk

Adds to the aircraft sound and as you stated, adds sounds to all the UT AI aircraft also which is excellent . You hear the AI planes coming in for a landing, take off rolls that sound real, wheel touchdowns. Even has an onboard MP3 player for the long flights. Well worth the money. The full program has the Co-Pilot , but I didn't really want that. They give you a free trial on their web site, but you have to stay with 80 miles or so of the Meigs field area to have the free trial work. http://www.fshotseat.com/Oh, almost forgot.. The electrical light switches for nav, beacon, etc on the lower right of the Overhead panel that ceased to work after I did the 800-900 update are now working again when using this program. :)

Dirk,"I guess the engines do not sound very much different in the cockpit than in the cabin."I have not been in the cockpit of an NG in flight but I have been in the cockpits of both small and large business jets. The engine sounds in the cockpit are very different than how they sound in the cabin.
