Weather radar (again)

Featured Replies

PMDG is getting bigger and heavier, and that is a good thing. Now that the fleet is gonna be enlarged a lot (MD11 and 747 are big crafts ;)), why not finding a way to implement this beloved weather radar?Since you're developing a family of aircrafts, all digital, you could develop the radar in a modular fashion: each plane that uses it its own way.Updates would be easier, and implementation too.And you will have something nobody else has.Think of it :)

Totally igree with you Claudio and think that it would be amazing to see some good radar echoes, and personally who cares if FS9 dosen't simulate turbulence the way it should, I would just like a wheater radar (the closest to reality as possible), that's it. Dave

It's all available right now including the turbulence and I fly with it every day. It's called Active Sky.

The AS "radar" is nowhere near a real world WX radar... The AS thingy is more like a satellite photo. The RXP WX500 on the other hand is a radar! :)RgdsKevin

The RXP WX500 on the other hand is a radar! Yep! Best Wishes,
Randy J. Smith
http://www.rawbw.com/~bdoolin/shinault/Animation1.gifCaution! Hi, This seems too good to be true: Does it actually reflect what I would see out the window in FS? Is there a big performance hit when using it? I went to their site and downloaded the sampler. Seems very nice indeed. Does anyone know if it can be used from another machine via WideFS?Thanks,BoazEKCH

I use the WX500 on all my flights but it don`t show exactly what you see. The wx 500 is based on a standard non-doppler X-band radar which detect water bodies which is areas with high water content and updown drafts (CB`s). it also show regular rainsnow and hail showers but not the cloud itself, you would need a doppler radar for that. as for framerates the wx500 do not affect FPS at all and it`s very easy to install.RgdsKevin

Very nice product. I'm using it since a couple of months and it's money well spent (in my opinion). I used it to navigate out of the fringes of (simulated) hurricane Ivan last month and was very very impressive. No frame rate impact for what I can see on my system.I think that at the moment the Reality WXR is the only choice for a "real" wx radar in FS9.
