PMDG 737NG Installer freezing up

Featured Replies

Hi,I purchased the PMDG 737NG a few weeks ago, and have had some issues with FS9 crashing to the desktop. Over the last 2 weeks, i have installed FS9 update to 9.1, WinXP SP2, and a few other things. After removing the PMDG 737, my crash to desktop stopped happening, so i figured it was something with my install of PMDG. I downloaded the removal tool and tryed to reinstall PMDG 737, but the installer freezes up at the beginning of the install when trying to copy font files. I also tryed downloading the installer again and you have the updated one (Oct 12,2004) and that one freezes up on me also. I also have the latest FSUIPC installed as well.Any help would be greatly appreciated.ThanksGary

Go into your Windows Fonts folder and delete anything that say "arial narrow" or anything similar (but not the arials!)

Hi,Thanks for the help Preston. I tryed that, and still no luck. I also Emailed tech support and am working on those solutions also. Here is the response I got from them if it is of any use to anyone. The only possible problem would be #3, and i have ensured that I have full access to that directory, but i will try a few different approaches to make sure. Thanks again for your help,GaryGary,We've done a bit of research into the problem you reported, and found a couple of ways to duplicate the problem:1) Manually change the name of the windows directory so that the registry was out of phase with the actual location of /Windows2) Attempt an installation in a user account that did not have administrator priviledges for the windows directory.3) Attempt an installation when the font directory was inaccessable due to read-only status and/or privilidge incongruity. This normally happened to users installing across a partition, but we are not certain as to why or how this is effecting the installer. Please double (and triple!) check your read/write permissions, and ensure that you are using an administrator account when running the installer. Also, be certain that you have not manually changed the location of Windows on your system (i.e.: have have never renamed your windows directory to something else...RegardsPaul GollnickManager - Technical/Customer Support Operations Precision Manuals Development

Gary,ALSO having the same problem today, bad deal goin on.Im getting the same results but I did find something interesting.I did what PMDG sent to you by making sure the FONTS folder is not marked read-only and this is what I get:Ill uncheck the box, click ok, apply it to folders and subfolders. try the PMDG installer and still no luck.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96473.jpgGo back to re-check its unchecked and this is what I get:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96474.jpgCheers,

JF -That is a thing with windows folders. I think Windows marks folders as readonly, but for some reason they aren't 'read only.' Don't ask me why, I had a problem with read only permissions and I thought a folder was marked read only when it wasn't.Sorry I don't know the answer but good luck :)

Hey,Thanks for your input. I also tryed that, making sure the font folder is not marked as read only.I even tryed taking ownership of the font directory. The thing is that I can delete font files, which means they aren't read only or protected in any way. There are 3 font file the PMDG instaleer copies, 2 Arial Narrow files and Lucida Console. I have tryed deleting them, then trying the installer, and it still freezes up on me.I went to the Wise website and found out I can extract the files from the folder to see what files are in it, but it doesn't recurse sub directorys when extracting them, so it is hard to tell what other file or folder it may be having a problem with.I will keep trying as I can't go on without my PMDG 737 !! I am dying to fly it, but I guess I will have to wait.Any other suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks,Gary

That's actually a Window's bug, but doesn't actually affect the operation of the folder.

So, Im beginning to think Fred is correct. The problem might not have anything to do with the Fonts or the Fonts Folder. Any help is still greatly appreciated. :)

Bump.Yeah its annoying. But so far no go!

Problem Solved!!!!I had a problem installing Norton SystemWorks. The error told me it couldnt find Drive C:I dont have a Drive C as I have SATA Drives, and for whatever reason, when Windows was installed, I ended up with:DVD Drive as D:1st HD as E:2nd HD as F:Anyways, I opened a DOS command prompt in Windows and typed: SUBST C: E:ENTER ANY VALID FOLDER HEREWhich creates a virtual Drive C:Then the Installer ran fine for the PMDG 737NG and Norton!!!Hope this solves someone else's problem, or helps the PMDG Programmers resolve an issue.ThanksGHunter

You don't have a C drive? That's odd. Probably something in your BIOS as to the order the drives are being detected. I have SATA RAID drives, and drive C was mounted automatically. What kind of mobo do you have?

Hi,Yeah, I thought it was kind of strange. It is an Asus P4C800E-DLX.It may be because of the way I did my Windows XP install. I booted from the cd, and installed on brand new, unformatted hard drives. So the OS read the cd as the first drive available, and labled it as drive D, then HD's got drives E and F.Now I am getting ready to build a new PC, and I want to avoid this problem on the new one, so i will try using fdisk, then format the drive first, before installing the OS.The new PC is an AMD FX-55 cpu on an MSI Neo 2 Platinum board. I am hoping to get 2gb of ram running on this board in dual channel mode at full 200mhz, but have read that it is not really possible due to the memory controller. Some people have been successful at it, but it isn't a sure thing. After I get my new pc running, I will go and re-do this system to see if I can get it set up better. Thanks,Gary

Thanks for telling me that!I have a second hard drive that I didnt have the first time I installed the PMDG bird. Ill try unplugging it tonight and see what happens. For some reason that makes sense to me. At least I hope! :)

Well now I am having this problem. I have drive 1 which has 2 partitions, C and D. WinXP SP2 of course is on C and I installed FS9 on D. When I attempt to install 737NG it freezes right away at the same place (font install). I previously had FS9 installed on another drive (F) and 737NG installed no problem. Any other suggestions?

Sounds as if your registry may be a bit screwed up. My best recomendation would be to uninstall FS9 including any saved flights and settings. Then reinstall FS9 on whatever drive you would like and the PMDG 737 should be able to find and install once your registry points to the proper FS9 installation.RegardsPaul Gollnick :-cool Technical Operations/Customer Operational SupportPrecision Manuals Development Groupwww.precisionmanuals.comhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/devteam.jpg
