Des Braban's NG sounds

Featured Replies

I recently downloaded and installed des Braben's sound packages for the 737NG. While the sounds are very good I am experiencing problems with a couple of them.1) The flaps.wav seems to loop over and over again, I counted about 6 or seven cycles going from flaps 5 to flaps 10.2) I'm still getting the default autopilot disengage sound (as in fs9soundPMDG737tng).Thanks in anticipation of any suggestions.Pete

While I cant say anything about the flaps sound, I must say the AP Disengage sound is the real thing. Thats how it sounds in real life :)

Hi,I'm not questioning the quality of the sound, it's just that I'm not hearing the wave file which is in the aircraft sound folder, and to which the sound.cfg file is pointing, but rather the wave file which is in the main fs9 sound folder. In a case like this which has priority? Is it safe to delete or overwrite the AP didengage wave file from the main sound folder? I think I'll try that. Thanks,Pete

Rename the default to xxxxBAK.wav and then add your new sound. If it does not work then simply rename the original back and you have not lost anything.

Tried this now all hell seems to have been let loose. As soon as I lift off I get a "traffic, traffic" call-out even with AI set to zero, then when I hit the AP disconnect switch I get the "engine failure" call-out. What's going on here? What have I done wrong? HELP PLEASEPete

I would just use the PMDG Sounds that came with the plane. They are top-notch quality.

Dan

I second this comment: stick with the normal NG sounds. I've used barrel loads of add-on sounds over the years and done a lot of my own sound file editing. I think the default NG sounds by PMDG are excellent and if I wanted to change any single type of sound, I would edit a single wav file or group of wav files only. Often one gets into strange loops or sounds go missing mysteriously when you swap third-party sounds for any default sounds that came with FS or add-ons (like the NG) for FS.Jonathan

Thanks Dan and Jonathan for your advice, I wish it had been available before I installed the sound set. I tried reinstalling the default PMDG sound set but as you have said Jonathan some sounds have gone missing and I have now started having CTDs at 77% loading, something I have never experienced before, I feel a complete reinstallation of fs9 coming on! However I can't help but think this must be something that I have done wrong as I note from the Avsim file library that there have been over 4700 downloads of this file and over 1800 downloads of the upgrade file and I can't find any other posts from users having problems with them.Thanks,Pete.

For some reason, I cant download the sound package. When it automatically opens the folder after some time...it says the file is corrupt. Also strange, I used to get a dialogue box coming up asking whether I wanted to run or save...for some reason I do not get this box pop up anymore.:-(

Jeez guys...If it ain't broke..... don't fix it.The stock PMDG sounds are excellent (IMHO... don't wanna start another range war here )....I'd rather fly than tinker...my 2 cents worth, but each to his own....

Just as a postscript to this thread I would like to say that all is now back to normal after reinstalling the PMDG 737. Shame I couildn't get the sound package to work because the gear up/down call outs were great, (They sounded VERY similar to First Officer Joe Houlighan from Go Flight to me, if you have the video which came with the boxed version of the Dreamfleet 737 play it again and I think you'll agree, I wonder if he gets repeat fees!!)Pete
