November 29, 200520 yr Has anyone used the Flight Enviromrnt addon?Just read the review on it but they didn't mention PMDG's Queen. It does however look pretty nice.Any comments would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

November 30, 200520 yr You want my personal opinion on FE?I find it over-rated primarily because of constant self-promotion and all sort of skillful advertsing by its creator. It is certainly very good but I see no advantage over the clouds/skies you get in AE/ASV.If you don't have ASV then FE may be ideal for you. But FE is not a weather program - it merely gives you different look of clouds/skies - it is equivalent to the AE portion of ASV. As you know any weather can be very heavy on frame rates. The prettier the clouds, the denser they are, the thicker they are, the more layers - the more hit on performance regardless what aircraft you fly. Both FE and AE offer different remedies to improve performance - DXT3 clouds, mip-mapped clouds, less detailed clouds, etc. It is impossible to say one has any advantage over the other in this regard.Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg Michael J.
November 30, 200520 yr I 100 percent agree with Michal. I use the sky/cloud sets from ASV and use FE primarily for water as its water textures are top notch. Its a good product but nothing ASV doesnt do.
November 30, 200520 yr I don't get the bitterness, and I don't see the self promoting or skillful advertising. Infact it took avsim months to get a review out there...Anyway I enjoy it, and use its clouds and sky almost always ontop of Activesky V, but sometimes go back and forth. Its water is first rate, and the options are great.
November 30, 200520 yr >I don't get the bitterness, and I don't see the self>promoting or skillful advertising. Infact it took avsim months>to get a review out there...Reviews have nothing to do with this. In fact few products get reviewed by Avsim. If you combined number of posts Peter W. wrote on the subject on FE on the main MSFS forum - that would exceed by at least a factor of 20-50 number of posts by Damian Clark or Chris Willis (or for that matter any other product author) wrote about theirs products. And if you paid closer attention to what he actually had to say .. yes, that would amount to no less than self promotion. If he has time to write so much and engage in this advertsing is his business but at the same time he will lash out at anyone who may even hint that his FE is not the crown jewel of the FS addons. That's when it gets tiring. Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg Michael J.
November 30, 200520 yr so ignore it, don't go out of your way to bash his product. So what if he promotes it? Its how he makes a living.
November 30, 200520 yr >so ignore it, don't go out of your way to bash his product.Sorry, I never bashed his product. In fact I always stated it was very good. It is his utter lack of respect (say contempt) for his competition that I am "bashing".Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg Michael J.
