Climb Speed?

Featured Replies

On the climb page of my 737, the target climb speed is 293/.78 . These figures can vary greatly especially before 30k feet. So which on is it? Am I supposed to maintain 293 or .78? Also I have noticed with real world weather and those massive wind changes, it drives my VNAV wild rapidly pitching up or down to maintain airspeed, so I frequently find myself manually climbing the airplane to cruise alt. Anyone found ways to get around this??Thanks, Al

I use wind smoothing, it is available in registered version of FSUIPC. The 293/0.78 means you'll climb at 293 (above 10,000) until the mach number increases to 0.78 then it will hold constant mach. It's very realistic. The climb above FL380 can become sluggish, and a minor wind variation may flatten your climb. If this happens I usually manually enter a climb mach a couple of points lower (0.74-0.76 usually work better).

Al,You keep 293 knots until your mach number reaches 0.78 (around FL300) after that you keep M0.78. Same thing but reversed when descending. With any other pitch mode than VNAV you will have to keep track of the cross over from airspeed to mach. In VNAV this will be handled automatically for you.If you are using the default FS weather I would suggest you disable winds aloft. Too many bugs in the upper winds behaviour that may end you flight if not careful. Another option is to look into Active Sky which has replaced the FS upper winds with in-house routines. Works very well.Hope it helps,
