August 2, 200619 yr I have a question for 737 pilots(or any other a/c I guess): Is there a ratio to go by when calculating how much baggage passengers carry? I try to average 40lbs per passenger, but think that might be a bit low . . . The major carriers must take into account how much baggage their pax are going to bring - too much and the 737 couldn't do PHX-JFK too reliably, yes?
August 2, 200619 yr This topic comes up about once a month... it's a good question. There are different company and FAA guidlines; however, a surprising amount of belly cargo is revenue generating. SWA is the 2d largest cargo carrier (belly cargo) in the US. You'd be surprised how much a 737-700 can haul 2000 nm, try it. Dan Downs KCRP
August 2, 200619 yr I think all checked luggage is weighed at the time of check-in. Carry-ons can only weigh so much for an "average" person to be able to carry it without tiring out too much. Dunno what that is, but I regularly strap on a 20 pound bag filled with camera gear whenever I go traveling.
August 2, 200619 yr Most Charter airlines in the UK believe in assumed weights. They use set weights to calculate their information. An Airline I work for who operate B733's Assume:Every :Adult + Hand baggage = 126lbsChild+Handbaggage = 88lbsInfant = 0lbsBag=29lbs.Chris.
August 2, 200619 yr Hi,By overall, how they come with total fuel weight, ZTOW and GTOW ?Who calculate all this? pilot itself or someone?RegardsShaheedan
