November 18, 200619 yr Commercial Member Captains-As you may recall, a few weeks ago we had a four day long outage of our main server that impacted email, validation, technical support, purchasing and just about every other aspect of our day to day operation. As a result of that failure, we commenced an aggressive effort to move the entire base of PMDG's operations from our existing server host to a new location. Our goal was to find technology that will handle at least twice or "release day best-case peak load scenario" and run 100% stable on all other occasions. We have been actively moving PMDG resources from our old server system to the new system for the past few weeks, and a short while ago we completed the final few tests needed before we could commence the move. Our plan included an orderly transition to the new server in order to minimize the impact of this move on validation, downloads and other customer functions that you interact with on a day-to-day basis.Early in the day on Friday we decided to effect the move late friday night! Surprising us not at all, our old server crashed while we were preparing for the final steps of the transition. We are currently experiencing a mixture of rage, sardonic bemusement and just plain surrender in the face of the fact that after the last server failure we were assured that the problem would "never happen again."So- this not is to let you know that the move is underway- and DNS propagation is taking place as we speak. Once we have met some milestones for DNS propagation- we will turn all the systems live on our new server- and things will immediately return to a state "better than normal!"In the mean time, we apologize if anyone is having trouble with validation, downloading or installation. We will get through this transition as quickly as possible!Watch the pinned threads in this forum for further updates if they are necessary! (we hope not!) Robert S.
