Flight Simulator 9 and the Nvidia e-GeForce 7300FT

Featured Replies

Hi all, I tried to search for these issues but I couldn't find it, so I guess it hasn't been posted. I have a couple of questions about my new video card so I hope someone can help me out. I just bought the Nvidia AGP GeForce 7300GT with 512MB of video memory and DDR. When I first ran FS2004, it would hang or lock up, and I had to restart the computer. It did this twice. I went to Nvidia's web site and downloaded the latest drivers and that seemed to help. But now, every time I click on something in FS2004, it flickers a couple of times and everything is fine. It flickers every time I click on something, but only in FS. My old grahpics card never did that and it had video memory of 128MB and DDR. I'm very disappointed with the frame rates I'm still getting and the emagages are still a little jerky. With my old video card, I was getting frame rates from about 15 to 30. With my new video card, I'm only still getting frame rates from about 20 to 40 fps, and I expected to get 100 or more. Should I be getting a lot more fps than what I'm getting out of my new video card with 512MB of video memory, and without any jerky scenes? What good does it do to have more video memory if one cannot get more frame rates than that? Maybe it's not what I expected, but I like to hear from those who have video cards with the same specs as mine and what frame rates you're getting. Thanks, Ken.

Ken, you may want to try out the hardware forum above. The MSFS program is CPU intensive, rather than video card, so there's not as much performance increase in a video card upgrade and one might expect. You've already found a driver issue, but maybe the guys that help out in the hardware forum can point out some other things to look for.
