The fuel usage model - how good is't`?

Featured Replies

Good afternoon, just a quick question. How good is the fuel usage model for PMDG737? The reason I'm asking is because I'm trying different ways of flying, trying to save as much fuel as possible. F.ex. trying to descent on the best L/D and see how huch fuel I saved. Would these results be simular to the real world results?Maybe a bit weird and studpid question, but.. :)Best regards Geir Groenlienwww.youtube.com/seilfly

The fuel consumption model is as "real as it gets" to borrow the Mircroslop tag line, within the constraints of an unrealistic air model (pressure/temperature/humidity).The descent is a difficult place to same a significant amount of fuel, in that the most ecomomical profile is to descend with very little if any thrust. All things considered, the climb profile is where I would play since climb thrust is going to use a much greater amount of fuel. Note that these guys will go as high as possible at near cruise speeds, which is pretty realistic. Then there is the cruise selection, but this is where the Microslop air model makes it hard to run an accurate simulation for long range cruise. Anyway, it would be interesting to see how adjusting climb power derate actually affects the fuel consumption.
