November 2, 200223 yr When I am flying on-line with the PIC767 the frame rate (panel view) will drop dramatically as soon as other aircraft become visible, for example during landing or taxiing. Does anyone have a clue?Regards,Jan van Bekkum
November 2, 200223 yr Try setting the scenery meg size more than the default 100 megs if you have the extra ram. It works for me, Best wishes, Randy J. Smith Randy J Smith
November 2, 200223 yr Thanks. How can I do this? I didn't find anything in "Options settings"?Regards,Jan van Bekkum
November 2, 200223 yr >Thanks. How can I do this? I didn't find anything in >"Options settings"? >>Regards, >>Jan van Bekkum Go to the main FS 2002 menu/scenery options/ then look on the right upper corner, it will be set to 100. I set mine to 800. This setting does INCLUDE PLANES. I have alot of extra gigs on my hard drive so I also set my "virtual memory" to 2000 megs for windows. It will use this for extra ram for your computer and you won't have to worry about running low on memory. You can change this by accessing control panel/system/advanced/ then click on "Performance settings"/advanced/then at the bottom you will see "Virtual Memory" and select CHANGE.Highlight your DRIVE i.e. "c" then select CUSTOM SIZE. Like I said I have mine set to 2000/2000 megs. Keep the min and max the same. Check how much free space you have to spare for this then allot it, then reboot.............Hope this helps.......I know for sure if you check your FPS BEFORE and AFTER you will see a INCREASE Peace, crvm Randy J Smith
November 2, 200223 yr Hi Jan,During landing and taxiing, the fps always drops due to the extra scenery detail that becomes visible, but when you fly on-line your FS2002 has to calculate the position of the other aircrafts as well. I noticed that effect also when I had a 600 MHZ P3, however, now I have a 2,4 GHZ P4 and I have no difficulty processing the other aircraft. One thing you can do to avoid the drop in fps is to disable Display Player Names in the multiplayer options section, especially when you are about to land at an airport with say more then 3 other on-line aircraft.Regards,KiekEHAMhomepage: http://home.planet.nl/~nwkaan/
November 2, 200223 yr I also got an annoying problem with my frame rate, i got AMD XP1800, 512DDR and a new GF4ti4200 128DDR, the overall frame rate improved a lot with everything to the max(average 20fps), but while in some airports with very complex scenery like PANC anchorchorage, the frame rate just unbelivable low!!(average 10 or even less!!), i'm wondering does FS2002 really a high performance computer killer? or i have something wrong in my computer? PLS HELP~~~THANKS!!
November 2, 200223 yr I have mine set up just the same with all to max and indeed it does run better or if I lower things to 16 bit and sliders lower it does not improve anymore than a couple of FPS. Some scenery airport add-ons will kill your FPS while taxing and takeoff. I suggest a top notch GF4 4600 Ti and maybe overclocked :] to be able to get your FPS back into double digits. Peace, crvm Randy J Smith
November 2, 200223 yr FS2002 is still cpu bound, investing in a 3 GHz P4 would help you more to get double digits... (IMHO)KiekEHAM
November 2, 200223 yr I can think of two things:1. Are you using Squawkbox for your online flying? If so, are you sure CSL is installed properly? If everyone else looks exactly like you then it might not be installed properly.2. What visual model are you using? The Wilco visual model is very hard on the frame rates. If there are several other clones of you in view, your frame rate will be horrendous. The POSKY visual model is not nearly as hard on frame rates.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
November 2, 200223 yr he's probably on the default PIC model and imagine your copy having to load 10 of those b*tches up... no wonder fps are gonna drop enormously, suggest you use the POSKY model with the pic panel, will smoothen your fps alot....cheers(btw CSL library doesn't always help....)
November 2, 200223 yr I replaced the Wilco moder by POSKY and increased the cache size. It looks like this has helped. By the way I never had this problem with the Dreamfleet 737 in an otherwise identical configuration.Regards,Jan van Bekkum
November 2, 200223 yr Lee is correct in this regard, the default PIC ext model sucks big time but hey so did FS2000, they were made for eachother! Peace, crvm Randy J Smith
November 3, 200223 yr yup... PIC really made an excellent 767 panel that makes me fly it much longer than any other panel!! but seems they also made a worse visual model....but POSKY makes the PIC767 panel PERFECT!! i just started to worry about the visual model of the upcoming A320PIC....
November 4, 200223 yr This is typically caused when the other a/c you are viewing are the same detailed model you are presently using. Though some models are better than other, this can bring even powerful machines to their knees. As others have suggested, you can increase your cache size or monkey around with your scenery density settings but I'll bet you will be much happier if you make sure you are running the CSL set that comes with SquawkBox. This should solve your problems.Download the latest version of SquawkBox and install it over your existing version. This will make certain that you are using the CSL when you are online.Good Luck.
November 5, 200223 yr George,I never heard about this. What is the technology behind it?Thanks.Regards,Jan van Bekkum
