Any good Tutorials

Featured Replies

Hi folks,Does anyone know where I can find a really good, step-by-step tutorial on the PIC 767? Not just one that covers the FMC, but one that takes you step-by-step through a simulated flight? Thanks in advance!

HiJust read the manuals that come with PIC and try, and try again!Peter

Manuals are great for reference and learning about the systems and the way they work etc. but I would also love a tutorial for PIC taking you from cold and dark to cold and dark - ala PSS Airbus/747/777 etc.Anybody know of any?EDIT: Or perhaps some PIC veteran/expert would like to create a detailed and accurate one? ;-)John/Meridianhttp://www.iol.ie/~shamrockstudios/Signatures/Signature2.jpg

It's pure Stumblevision, man. Some people seem to get it right away- in terms of sequences, checklists and the tension of live flight.Personally, I like to fly intoxicated, and dedicated myself to the 737...read about it, flew it FS style in many incarnations (fave: Airport 2002 Vol I) and watched several videos of it flying around. Not off topic- but if you get that Dreamfleet 737 with the Goflight London-Lisbon tape- that is one of the clearest and most interesting and informative of some of the more expensive commercial discs. It's their Senior Pilot in a 737 at Stansted that he's just flown over, new, to the UK 3 days before. www.worldairroutes.com or justflight.com have DVDs and videos that are like porn to us flight sim guys...it's just amazing.Amazing.But yes, anyway, to answer your question - check out a DVD or tape at justflight or whatever it's called these days - you will see what the pilots actually see and hear and that will lead to attempts by you to reproduce that exper-- (wife interrupts, exit Pilot stage right)Blood Alcohol level .08

I have a tutorial printed in my PIC binder that was done by Lamont Duncan (KLAX-KTUS).I've tried finding the doc on the net, no luck.DSCVA3339

Yes, I know the one you have and tried it before. Didn't really like it. It really just skimmed over the basics and didn't really go in-depth into the procedures etc. There are a few vital things in my opinion that are missing from it, can't name them off the top of my head though. What I'm looking for is something that pretty much utilizes every switch. :-) The PSS manuals are an excellent example of that, especially the 777 V2 tutorial. It brings you through all of the autopilot functions (which I'm pretty good with already but could be better), holding patterns, go arounds etc. If someone were to create one similar to this I would even consider paying money. ;-)Thanks anyway.John.

Hi John:Your right I didn't go into minute detail as it wasn't meant as a replacement for the manual. You must read the manual to familiarize yourself with the layouts and what each switch is intended to do. So that in a flight tutorial when I say "Turn on the Main Battery Switch" you know where it is.However, I believe some of my fellow pic'ers are working on a tutorial as we speak which may be more to your liking. On the other hand if there's something you're having trouble understanding give me a holler.

John:You say you would consider paying money for a thorough tutorial? Before we begin working on our tutorial... how much are we talking about here? ;)Rob Hall (ACA856) and myself (CVA3339) are starting work on a 767PIC tutorial flight from Boston to Halifax. We are planning on getting others involved as well to fine tune and enhance. I'm not sure how "thorough" you want and/or expect - the 767PIC manuals pretty much cover thoroughness imho - but our tutorial will be from cold & dark to shut down. We will attempt to give page numbers for reference back to the manual if more information is necessary to understand certain procedures. The PIC manuals are indispensible and a must-read if you expect to thoroughly understand the 767, but a tutorial is a great tool, and that's what we are hoping to come up with.BTW, Lamont, nice flying with you last night - your tutorial was helpful in my understanding (or lack thereof, right Rob?) of the 767PIC. Hope we can come up with a tutorial that enhances the experience as well.BTW2, Have I mentioned lately that "767PIC rocks!"DSCVA3339

Wow! Please let us know when the tutorial is complete. I would really appreciate getting a copy of it!Thanks...>John: >>You say you would consider paying money for a thorough >tutorial? DS,When I say thorough I pretty much mean everything that is clicked is written down in the tutorial, in point form, if you know what I mean. If you have any of PSS products you'll see. They are an excellent example of what I am looking for.As for the money thing, maybe I was over reacting and got a little excited, but we'll see. :-)Looking forward to seeing this tutorial you are working on too. :7John

"pretty much mean everything that is clicked is written down in the tutorial, in point form"Are you asking for a Checklist? They are in the manual.I'm getting conflicting messages here John.I own several PSS products. I haven't found their manuals/documentation anything special. In fact, the programs (and the accompanying manuals) are collecting dust on a shelf.Anyone want to buy the boxed version of the PSS A320 off me?Our tutorial will be as complete as it needs to be - it certainly won't be trying to rewrite what is a thorough - I say again, thorough - and very complete manual. It's true the 767PIC manual won't win any contest for including exciting/humorous sections with kooky stories about the wacky world of the 767... but they are complete and accurate. The tutorial will be ready when we're done.DSCVA3339

First of all... I don't think the PSS manuals are that bad, but it's obviously just a personal opinion. I'm referring to their tutorials rather than their actual systems manuals etc. anyway. Also, I know there are checklists but it's not really what I'm looking for.EDIT: One last thing... I get the impression that you have the idea that I think the PIC767 manuals aren't very good or whatever and I'd just like to set the record straight that I think they are excellent and very thorough as you said. Which is great. They are good for getting information etc. about the different systems and what a particular switch does etc. but it doesn't really include procedures or ultimately, the tutorial, which is what I'm looking for.I think I may have confused things a little here so I won't say anything further. :-)Looking forward to your tutorial.John.

I have been putting together one also. It will cover all phases of a flight from KBFI to KLAX. Best Wishes,Randy J. [email protected]" A little learning is a dangerous thing"AMD XP 2100 |MUNCHKIN 512 DDR RAM |ECS[/b ] K7S5A MB |[b]GF3 64 MEG |WIN XP PRO |MITSUBISHI DIAMOND PLUS 91 19"

Well yikes, bring 'em all on! :-lolJohn.

Randy,And just where was your butt last night? I thought you would get brave and try flying on line for a change... :-lol
