Simulation Hesitation

Featured Replies

I got hooked when I controlled a gaggle of 767's following Mike B. into Bolivia. I am now trying to fly the 767.I soon remebered fly I stopped flying it soon after I got the PIC.I have a problem with the simulation, which introduces a 2-3 second hesitation every 2 or 3 minutes of simulation. It happens with the PIC767 and also with the PIC-POSKY767 (that I managed to merge successfully). It happens in panel, spot or tower views, during taxi, climb, cruise and descent. My frame rates are running betweeen 25 and 30. When the hesitation occurs the entire display freezes for the 2-3 secs. but it does not indicate a frame rate drop (it should actually go to zero, shouldn't it?)I run a 1.6 P4, with 512Mb of RAM and a Ge3.I also fly the DF737 and the CS727 without difficulties.Any help, comments and opinions will be greatly appreciated.Roberto

Roberto,It's good to see you are flying "The" aircraft. A couple things need to be known before we can help you. I will list the first few that come to mind and I am sure that others will follow up with you as well. The Patch for FS2002, did you install it, which one, how many? The Wilco site is confusing as h&ll and if you got this part wrong it would be no surprise. You should only instal one patch and one patch only. It is listed on the Wilco site as Item 7. Here is the link to the patch:ftp://ftp.wilcopub.com/767PilotinCommandPatchFS2002.exeIf you installed any other, you will have to reinstall PIC per my understanding and reinstall with just this patch.Your Scenery, look at your world/scenery and keep PIC up near the top and what do you have checked, "use this scenery directly" or "cache this scenery"?Your Nav Data, It is great to keep your nav data up to date but beware that loading even 25% of every SID/STAR/APPR available in the world will cripple even the best systems.Answer those questions and we will try and drive down to the source of the problem you are experiancing.

Hello Mike!I can't quite recall anymore which of patches I used. I will re-install the PIC and then use the patch you suggest.I basically have the nav data that came with the default. I have not yet added anything significant. But I think that the PIC scenery must be, by now, "way down" on the list.I have to go out of town (one of those family events that interfere with the hobby :-)) for the weekend. However, Sunday nite I will check all of your points, see what happens and report back.Thx!!Roberto

Hiya Mike:I am back home.I did what you suggested.1) I uninstalled the PIC.2) Installed it again.3) Downloaded the patch, at the address you sent me.4) Installed it.5) Did not add any SIDS/STARS other than the ones the PIC CD installs. (Is there a way of reducing that? I always use charts anyway)6) PIC is up there in the scenery list. It is # 4. "use this scenery direct" is checked7) Still hesitates. I tried several airports that were up and down the scenery ladder just to make sure that it is not airport scenery that is creating the problem. But, as it also hesitates in cruise, I gather it is the PIC.Ready for new instructions. Thx as usual!Roberto

Try setting your scenery cache to 500 megs. Also set the frame rate limit to 25 for smoother running. A pause might indicate that flight sim is accessing textures etc and you might need to free up some resources. Of course there are other things that might be causing this but try these out first. Also with your slower CPU I would not use Antialiasing or shawdows as these will slow you down. Another "trick" is to set your monitor's refresh rate to 100-75 and get use a program to make FS use it too. One more thing, turn off Direct 3D Vsync.Ah forgot this puppy, make sure that your hardrive is set to UDMA 100-133 {whatever yours is} or it will run much slower and this WILL CAUSE the pausing. Hi This happened to me some while ago. Are you running Autosave by Pete Dowson? This causes a slight hesitation each time it saves. Although I don't think there is any cure I just used the cfg file to change the save rate to every ten minutes, that way you don't notice it nearly as much.

Paul:Like the (very old) musical said:"I think he's got it!!"I tried everything else the guys suggested and it is not working.I was quite frustrated yesterday. But!! Yes, I am running Autosave and I will attempt to do what you suggested as soon as I get home tonite and I will report back.Thx!!Roberto

Do you use ServInfo in "automatic reload" mode? I find that causes pauses, regardless of the aircraft I'm using.I use Pete Dowson's AutoSave with a 1 minute timer and NEVER have any pauses from it, even on my older slower system. The only pauses I've ever seen are caused by ServInfo reloading data.As a result, I've configured it so that it does not reload automatically if it is minimized. I minimize at pushback and don't pop it open again until I reach cruise. I'll update manually once or twice during climb.cz

Hi Richard:Unfortunately the hesitation happens even when I am trying the 767PIC off line and with nothing else open.I tried the POSKY a/c with the default panel, and things went OK. But both the PIC and PIC/POSKY with the PIC panel and I get the hesitation. It therefore appears to be a panel-related matter.I'll try Paul's suggestion tonight (on the autosave) and report back, so that we can all learn.Thx. everybody for your help.Roberto

Hi Roberto,Not sure what your system is, but if you are running a lowly 700mhz like me, every precious bit of resources is critical when running PIC.1 - Make sure EVERTHING is shut down, especially fire walls and virus protection programs, IM's, etc.2 - Use "End It All" to close any residual programs running.3 - Reduce your screen resolution (this was a big speed increase for me). Use only 16bit, not 32bit colour. I run the PIC with a 19" monitor at 1152X864 at 16bit colour. When I went there from 1280X960, I immediately gained about 5-7 frames and greatly increased smoothness.4 - Reduce your scenery level to "normal", texture and other sliders to low...you won't miss much I promise. Keep the effects and lighting detail up high, lower the water/detail-relection.5 - Set the target frame rate to around 25 or lower. If none of this helps, let me know, I will dig deeper. I will sometimes get a hesitation when on line and other flyers enter the multiplayer session, or sometimes on approach to a busy scenery area and buildings start to pop up on the horizon. The hesitation should only last a fraction of a second while the scenery/player comes into view, then smooth again.Hope this helps.Rob.
