March 20, 200323 yr I am loving this 767 sim! I find reading about all the systems fascinating, especially the ammount of redundancy that exists. Quick question: I am curious as to why you aren't supposed to fly with the left and right isolation valves open all the time. Any recommended reading for those who wish to delve deeper into the guts of this machine?KR
March 21, 200323 yr Commercial Member You actually already answered your question :-)"redundancy"!Let's assume, you have a duct leak in the left system. If both systems are interconnected, the bleed air from the right system (aswell as from the left system) will escape through this leak and none of the two packs will be energized (also, you could have a complete hydraulic failure!). If both isolation valves are closed, then you will only loose the left system, the right pack will work further.Hope this answers your question,RegardsMark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
March 21, 200323 yr Yes, the manuals! Really they will help you very much. After that, you can use real world 767 material for your learning pleasure like FMC training books, POH etc. by then you should be able to tell the small differences. And last but sometimes much more important than these is this forum's archives. Best Wishes, Randy J. March 21, 200323 yr Thanks, guys. I have read the five .pdf files that came on the CD, and that's what has tweaked my curiosity on that small point. I'll go check out the archives as you suggested. Thanks again, and happy flying.Ken Rogers
