July 16, 200322 yr Hi BBall!Absolutely fantastic pics!A few questions:I thought that the C autopilot is only used in normal operations during cruise, and I believe there was a thread in here somewhere that discussed the reasoning behind it. As I recall it, it had something to do with captain's and fo's display readouts in some non-normal sit ?? Is the new B753 different in that respect ?I too am eagerly waiting for the second installment of your PIC767 review. Please, do take the time to install PIC and go through the non-normals. I know you're very very busy, but it would just take a few hours ;). Seriously, I enjoyed reading the first part, and I think the second part is even more interesting (or would be) ...Fly safely!Tero PPL(A)
July 16, 200322 yr Coming from one of the guys who rides on those military charter flights, we really appreciate it!! Much nicer to ride on a World Airways L1011, than in the back of a C-130 all the way to the desert (and I fly one, lol!!)Lobaeux
July 17, 200322 yr That attitude indicator gauge is no longer analog. Guess the 757-300 borrowed some cool stuff from the 777?
July 17, 200322 yr Yeah I am the guy who loads your military charters heheIf you are ever flying that NWA jet thru Tinker AFB, OK look me up...I will most likely be loading it.Gary Hayes SrA USAFAlienware Area 51P4 3.0 ghz 800Hhz FSB w/ 512 Cache & HyperThreading1GB DDR SDRAM PC-3200120GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ATA-100 8MB CacheNvidia GeForce FX 5900 Ultra 256MB 8x AGP w/DVI &S-Video Gary Hayes My Youtube No i'm not a "real" pilot, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
July 17, 200322 yr Captain - thanks for the great photos. The second is now my new desktop wall paper.>Heading home to KMSP. Cruising along in one of the new>757-300s
July 18, 200322 yr "That attitude indicator gauge is no longer analog. Guess the 757-300 borrowed some cool stuff from the 777?"This is the ISFD (Integrated Standby Flight Display). I don't know if this was borrowed from the 777? (The ones I've seen on the 777 are LCD, but they're individual displays). They come with their own backup batteries so they can run long after the main battery(ies) have died. They use top secret technology from NASA (weird stuff like piezo-electric gyros, or something like that).I first saw these integrated displays on the 747-400ER, but they were probably on the 737NG's and Airbuses a while before that. Here's a closeup of one on the 747-400ER (the option of a heading display has not been taken on this one)http://members.ozemail.com.au/~b744er/744e...ithILSScale.jpgCheers.Ian.
July 18, 200322 yr Same for me Ian, first thing I did at work when I saw this post was to set my work PC wallpaper to that same shot. I only wish I had the high definition copy of it.
July 18, 200322 yr very very interetsting and great shots! really looks like a great flight, yes, I too am curious as to the callsign you use. Is it NW or a specific one. And do you need to squawk 7777 for military ops? thanks a ton for sharing your story!
July 18, 200322 yr Is this RVSM airspace? DOH - just re-read the first caption where it says "RVSM" (thanks cz).
