The last trip with old PIC, a tribute

Featured Replies

Hi,Here's my tribute to the old 767PIC. A trip from Helsinki to Rhodes on a 757. Captions in English, so foreigners should be able to follow :).The URL goes to FSNordic screenshots forum:http://tinyurl.com/2aqehcheersTero

Very nice, tero. I'll have to make a video of my flight someday. BTW, where did you get those upper wind charts? Do they have them for the USA? Those seem helpful for planning my flight level. A few more questions. When you were on the ground at night, you had a nice, bright landing light. WHat did you install to get that? I tried the taxi light switch but it doesn't seem to do anything. I guess thats it.Regards, Mike Catalfamo

Hi Tero,Thank you for this great tribute to our beloved PIC767!When studying the screenshots of your landing I was surprised to see you fly the approach with NAV1 in auto mode (and not manual), tuned to the ILS 25 (110.3), and NAV2 tuned to RDS VOR (115.8), I assume. You landed safely, good airmanship(!), congratulations(!), but just for your information and to share experience I would have done the following:NAV1 manually set to the ILS of rwy25 (110.3)NAV2 remotely tuned (via the FMC NAV RAD page) to PAR VOR (108.6)and optional:ADF set to NDB ROS 339VOR1/ADF switched to ADFThis would have given you much more navigational information and IMHO a better situational awareness. Now you were flying in good weather, but when sight is limited and/or your CDU fails during the approach.. .,you have more options.I'm not reffering to any airline SOP, it's just my way of flying...But again, I liked your screenshots a lot!CheersNicowww.nicokaan.nlfc.php?vatsim=814584&indicator=OD1&a=pic767.jpg

Nico,Thanks for the comment. However. Why manually tune, when autotune is available? Of course I manually tuned the ILS to make sure, and then changed back to AUTO again. That's how I always do: if for some reason the autotuning is not working I can bring up the ILS quickly.NAV2 was on RDS VOR. Could have opted for PAR as well.ADF was set exactly as you say. Didn't switch it on in the RDMI, because I didn't need it.Tell me about the manual tuning, why ?Tero

Hi Tero,>Why manually tune, when autotune is available? Of course I>manually tuned the ILS to make sure, and then changed back to>AUTO again. That's how I always do: if for some reason the>autotuning is not working I can bring up the ILS quickly. That's exactly my point, you always have to program the NAV1 manually with the ILS frequency just in case you change the EHSI between MAP and ILS display mode (because then the NAV1 receiver cycles between AUTO and MAN mode...). So if you already have programmed the ILS manually, why don't you put NAV1 on Manual?!? Then you're sure it's ok and stays ok (no sudden changes). I feel more in control that way. Remember that in a real 757/767 there is no ILS auto-tune logic (so if you once have to replace the sick pilots in front, you're less confused... ;-))>NAV2 was on RDS VOR. Could have opted for PAR as well.PAR is refererred to in the final approach procedure, gives more info then RDS. I would program the ILS manually in NAV1 in late cruize phase just before starting the descent, then remotely tune NAV1 to RDS and NAV2 to PAR. When ILS is in range, I would switch NAV1 from auto to manual and everything is set. I would also set a fix with 30nm circle around PAR VOR, also for more awareness...

Your last flight with PIC767 and you new FDE? Don

Tero...Where do you get the wind charts?

Hi Tero,Silly question...how come this was your last flight in the old PIC ?Just curious...could it be that something new is around the corner ?Happy landings;-)

Rhys,An interesting thought :).Tero

Andreas,Take a look at the FDE v3 readme.txt. It explains in detail the needed work-arounds to fly the 57 with PIC FMC.Matt Zagoren's 757 performance charts (hosted here on Avsim) provide for takeoff and reference speeds (they are from a real PW2037 AOM).http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?DLID=12749Use Pilotmedia flight planner (www.pmfp.com) for realistic flight planning and briefing packages (and fuel consumption...).POSKY's new 757 model is what the FDE config is designed for. Although the wings don't flex in that model, it's otherwise very near perfect.regards,Terops. I'm not converting into any other type...

Actually I find the ASALINK (http://rfinder.asalink.net) flight planner produces better flightplans and is not as convoluted as Pilotmedia. It even takes into account (if you want it to) restrictions in European airspace. I have as yet to see it fail the Eurocontrol flight plan validation, or hiccup on any of the SIDS/STARS as Pilotmedia does.

Hi Tero,Indeed !!:D , however I won't pry...;-) All the best

>Rhys,>>An interesting thought :).>>Tero>I have this feeling he's going to fly the next version of PIC ;-) Well very nice post, makes me want to fly that plane again :D *Basten is searching for his old FS2002 CDroms and of course the 767 Pilot in Command CD.http://www.flightfactory-simulations.com/h...B_testpilot.jpg[a href=http://www.ifdg.net]--iFDG website!--[/a]

Thanks Tero! Good news that you did not change your aircraft... May I kindly ask you on which routes Finnair normally uses their 757s. Whould it be asking too much to provide us with some flighplans (also domestic routes served by 757s are welcome). They don
