Wind limit for 757 autoland?

Featured Replies

In the real one it's 25knot headwind, 25knot crosswind, and 10knot tailwind. How were you configured for landing? Speeds, nav radios, etc?

Ali,I haven't seen this myself with some awful x-winds. I suggest you boot the PC and try again :).Tero

TeropaI have also noticed with V3 airfile that in any crosswind the plane is all over the place when approaching about 3 to 4 DME from touchdown on the ILS. Manual flying. it is not my technique or landing config that is causing the problem. Never had that problem with either V1 or V2 airfile. I noticed that you have done some changes to the cfg file that comes with your Zip ( MOI moments of inertia, Flap settings and Engine thrust rating ) Maybe the airfile that some of us got was corrupted or something or just a bad download.Try going into Seattle 16L with the winds from about 208 at 16 kts on Manual control with about 12K on the fuel and see what you think

Tero...When is your web site at simradar going to open.Nebojsa:-wave

Gary,Honestly. I have not seen this myself. I have done many x-wind landings in many different conditions. Changes in the airdata ? You bet, but they are intentional, not by accident.I'll have to look at this problem more carefully. First of all, please be more specific about "plane is all over the place", what do you mean ?Tero

Nebojsa,Sorry, you lost me here ? What website are you referring to ?Tero

TeroI really love what you've done to bring us the 757 with the PIC Panel, so I am in no way critisizing your air file, Just wondering why I never had this problem with V1 or V2. by all over the place I mean that when getting close to the approach end of the runway, the aircraft seems to drift left and right, and is a real chore to keep it lined up on the centerline and sometimes the aircraft is actually 45 degrees to the runway on touchdown and when the wheels hit, the nose comes around abruptly. I only land using manual control ( never use autoland ) and have not compared manual to autoland to see if the same results happen. I turn the right yaw damper off and my rudder effectiveness is set to 2.0 ( auto rudder in the sim is unchecked ). which is how I've always flown the 767 and the 757. the 767 does not behave this way by the way. Other aspects of the V3 handling characteristics are very stable and responsive and a real pleasure to fly. with a no wind condition and both yaw dampers on the problem dosen't exist. However with or without a crosswind and the right yaw damper off, it is very unstable on the short final. Thanks for your response

Gary,No problem with the feedback. I'm just surprised, that's all. The R YD being selected OFF might have something to do with this. I know I tested the FM with it selected both ON and OFF and with the rudder effectiveness values I quoted in the readme, but maybe something has slipped my fingers :(.However, I'm wondering about what you say here: "and sometimes the aircraft is actually 45 degrees to the runway on touchdown and when the wheels hit, the nose comes around abruptly"I don't understand what you mean by this. Let's say that we have a direct xwind of, say, 20 kts. The approach attitude in those conditions becomes such that the nose is pointing into the wind, but not 45 degrees ! :). I'd guestimate that a wind correction angle in that wind would be around 10 degrees or even less. You will need to maintain that relative angle to the runway all the way until around 50 ft, where you will slowly (but firmly) apply downwind rudder to straighten the nose AND in the same time apply upwind aileron to prevent the rudder-induced roll. You will not want to land the aircraft with nose pointing anywhere else than on the runway.I will look into this, but it might take a few days to get results since at the moment I don't have my FS controls at home.Tero

I was referring to the B757 FDE DEVELOPMENT PAGES at SIMRADAR.COMNebojsa

Did you change the ZFW for arrival?

Guys,I just completed 5 x-wind landings with V3 FDE. I setup it at 20 knots direct x-wind (90 degrees off). I did 2 landings with AP on all the way to touchdown (autolands), both R YD ON and OFF and with the respective rudder_eff values. I did 3 manual landings with R YD ON and OFF, again with the respective rudder_eff values. My findings:I could not replicate the problem you seem to be having. The only gripe I had with this testing session was the fact that in 2 cases the autopilot tracked the localizer very slightly to the left of the centerline. That is all, I'm afraid. The handling characteristics of the plane were flawless. Smooth all the way.I don't know what to do to help you guys out, maybe you should just download the v3 FDE from Simradar again, and see if it helps. Also, make sure all your FS realism sliders are maxed out.Tero

Nebojsa,I haven't had time to make those pages, I'm sorry. After PICv2 is out, we'll look at the situation again with Sebastian and re-evaluate if there's need for more FDE work or not ;)Tero
