Rudde Authority

Featured Replies

I've been using PIC since it's original release date but have been having a mroblem since the beginning. Rudder effectiveness is virtually zero in flight. Even when i twist my sidewinder force feedback 2 to full rudder (with auto coordination off), there is only a minor, hardly detectable change in yaw. As you can imagine, this causes a major problem in even a moderate crosswind on landing. Any help would be greatly appreciatedRunning XP Pro FSUIPC latest versin installed

Have you tried setting in the aircraft.cfg :rudder_effectiveness=16.0Some people use different numbers, but 16.0 works great for me.

I have that same prob also (as most do I would expect :-) I can't find in the .cfg file where it says "rudder_effectiveness="Mike CatalfamoDAL1521

In my aircraft.cfg (I use the PIC/POSKY merge) there is the following section:(NOTE THAT THE BRACKETS BEFORE AND AFTER "flight_tuning" NEED TO BE SQUARE BRACKETS !!!)(flight_tuning)cruise_lift_scalar=1.0parasite_drag_scalar=1.0induced_drag_scalar=1.0elevator_effectiveness=1.0aileron_effectiveness=1.0rudder_effectiveness=16.0pitch_stability=1.0roll_stability=1.0yaw_stability=1.0elevator_trim_effectiveness=1.0aileron_trim_effectiveness=1.0rudder_trim_effectiveness=1.0

I'm using the default air files and aircraft cfg and can't find "rudder effectiveness"

I guess you can just add the whole section...Could someone pls. confirm this? Lee?

The 'flight tuning' section is from the POSKY config / merge app; the original Wilco config file does not have this section. As you will see, the tuning is all set at "1.0" which is has no affect on the aircraft -except- for "rudder_effectiveness" which will improve your rudder effectiveness as the title suggests.FYI, I have mine set to 24.0, using an MS FF stick with a twist grip for rudder, I need the extra boost.I think it is safe to add the section above to the wilco config file, -but- I would strongly suggest getting a POSKY 767 and using the 767/POSKY merge...see the 767 Flying Club & POSKY website / downloads. You will get a better looking aircraft and enjoy better frame rates. The original Wilco visual model was 'lacking' to say the least.Rob.

I just followed the Mike Ray checkride book and did some v1 cuts, v2+ cuts, etc... the rudder effect 24.0 was just enough...imho.

bloody hell, if set it to 24 I cant taxi at all... let alone keep the bird on the runway during the takeoff roll..noooooooo nononono I'll keep me 5 ;)Cheer-z

Guys,Don't confuse settings used with auto-coordination on and off (ie. R Y/D on/off).Tero

Lenny,If you do a search here on the forum, keyword "24.0", you will see that many users choose to leave the Yaw Dampers (Auto Coord) ON at all times with the rudder_effectiveness set at 24.0 Yes, if you turn off the Yaw Dampers in PIC and have a rudder_effectiveness of 24.0, you will indeed be unable to control the aircraft at speed on the ground as you say. The setting of 24.0 is specifically for flying the aircraft with Yaw Dampers ON (Auto Coord), as is closer to the r/w common practice. There is also another twist to this..."AUTO RUDDER" in the realism settings should NOT be checked on. To sum up, a rudder_effectiveness of 24.0 will give you good rudder authority with Yaw Dampers ON and MS FS-Realism settings AUTO RUDDER - OFF.Clear as mud?Rob.

Hi,I followed all the advice you have been given and could not get the sidewinder joystick to give any rudder authority.I am now using pro-pedals and have full rudder control even on one engine.RegardsSimmslot
