December 31, 200421 yr Hello All,Anyone got any ideas about what caused the engine smoke below?http://www.airliners.net/open.file/745530/L/ Maybe it's modelled within the new LDS 767 failures options!Regards
December 31, 200421 yr You could see if the Australian equivalent of the AAIB or NTSB have published any details on it.
December 31, 200421 yr >Qavion, did you work on this one?Knowing my luck, Lee, yes :-) (Today I zapped myself on a 744 cabin lighting fitting, stabbed myself with a shard of glass from a broken 777 taxi light, hit my head on a nose gear door (on the same aircraft) and jabbed myself with a screwdriver (on a 767)). I'm told that what happens on New Year's Eve is a reflection of things to come in the New Year (I think I should resign now before I really get hurt) :(No, actually... and thankfully, I was off work on the 28th ;-)Anyway, I'll try to find out what happened. Looks like some kind of minor oil leak. Either that or Qantas has gone into the sky writing business :-)Cheers.Ian.
December 31, 200421 yr Surely just tyre smoke after cornering too fast...:) Regards Howard H D Isaacs

December 31, 200421 yr the thick fume indicates some for of oil being burnt(eg oil reaching unwanted high temps)Cheers
January 1, 200521 yr According to the official report, absolutely nothing wrong was found with the engine after extensive testing (no leaks/faults of any kind). The engineers suspected the engine may have ingested a large plastic rubbish bag! (presumably blowing across the tarmac).Seems like a lot of smoke for a plastic bag, but then I haven't tried throwing one in an engine to find out :( I suppose plastic is essentially an oil-based product and even small drops of oil can cause a lot of smoke.Cheers.Ian.
